otoh I'm kind of glad that pTerry died when he did--before the Brexit nonsense, and Trump. I like to think that he died when the world was a more hopeful place, and he didn't have to deal with all the crap we're slogging through now. :|

I'm pretty sure that I grieved more deeply for Douglas Adams than I will when I find out that my biodad is dead. I still miss DA, and still wish that he was around.

they freak out when they see coyotes, "ooh coyotes spread disease, ooh coyotes are dangerous to pets and children," and don't realize that RATS ARE FAR WORSE ON EVERY POINT. I want to go door-to-door with a flyer and forcibly educate people. WE NEED THE COYOTES. CHERISH THE COYOTES.

I really hope we get another pack moving into this territory soon. people don't realize that the *base* of coyote diets is rats, and they're pretty much the only ground predators in this climate that are capable of keeping the rat numbers down--and without them, this place will be *swarming* with rats. :|

in less cute local wildlife news, the coyote pack that had the apartment complex as part of their territory isn't around any more--I have no idea why; they might have just moved away--and we are currently without a regular coyote presence. there's been a couple around, but not nearly as frequently. and I can tell in part because of the number of rat sightings I've had in the last couple of weeks has tripled.

also one of them was scratching its head with a claw and fell over, wings flailing. OMGOMGOM

they have the basic idea "turn over a leaf and you might find something tasty," but they haven't quite figured out that the tasty thing is probably *under* the leaf and probably not *the leaf itself*, so they keep trying to eat the leaves. XD

watching the three (??? I thought there were only two!!!) crow fledglings pecking and stumbling around on the lawn. they are so darn clumsy and adorable omg

this new RPer is painfully earnest. emphasis on painful. they're trying *really* hard, but it's just not working. *sigh* and I am so not the person to try taking them in hand and being the caretaker/teacher. :P

he's done, and pilled. Pooka is such a sweetheart about it, he doesn't like it but he doesn't draw blood or turn it into a horrible fight, he just... doesn't like it. XD

nope never mind, he's still eating--he finished his own food and now he's working on Nar's. I need to wait for him to be definitely done before pilling him; don't want him to associate food with getting pills. poor guy has enough hangups as it is.

and now, it's time to shove a pill down Pooka's throat, which I know he enjoys about exactly as much as I do. :|
