Speaking of the Necker Cube and gender stuff, I want ti highlight what's the oldest attested example of this online, now only available via the internet archive (CW for frank discussion of slurs, and also outdated terminology, because it's from 1996):
http://web.archive.org/web/19990508025838/http://www.chaparraltree.com:80/raq/
Which is basically how I feel about the linked site when it comes to gender stuff in general.
If ONLY I'd run across this when first having gender feelings, rather than so much way-binarist trans stuff, way-too-much-of-both genderfuck stuff, and way-too-nebulous neutrois stuff.
Dunno if it would've gotten things rolling any faster, but having resources and symbols and not feeling like the only one is a Very Important Thing.
@indi I realize it may be unnecessary, but I also want to acknowledge that I probably did about as much harm as good in that space. I know it's in the past, but I still want to acknowledge my role as one of the binarist-trans voices. I was not so good then as I am now, and I still have much to learn myself about empowering others to follow their paths.
@literorrery I appreciate the acknowledgement. FWIW you did me a fair amount of good too; you were more enthusiastic than _I_ was about using neutral pronouns for me for a bit. I flailed around a LOT, I can't exactly fault anyone else for their own flailing. ;)
@indi I ran across it in '99, and still managed to get my head tied up in a knot for a long time because... brains are like that?
There's so much awesome stuff here; it also includes the oldest example I can find of the Gender Diamond diagram which I came up with independently like 10 years later, thinking I was being terribly original, and also this is what got me reading Bone Dance, a novel that hits on so many of my personal meaning buttons that it's baffling and frustrating that I didn't read it until 2013 or so.
