seriously, this only helps harassers, no one else, and it is entirely at the expense of those who are getting harassed.
This sort of thing is why I keep arguing that mastodon shouldn't get credit for being 'anti-harassment', the lead dev is actively working against it.
And yes, it is specifically @Gargron, the pull request for this was by him.
It is like watching a race to the bottom in terms of being terrible about anti-harassment features.
Soooo.....
I suspect that @Gargron has just given up on any sort of anti-harassment for mastodon.
The newest release candidate has an update that will let people know they are blocked when they view a profile.
This is fucking basic shit, you don't let harassers know if they are having an effect, or if they are being heard or not. Why the fuck should someone I block get to know I blocked them? It just means they know 1) They had some effect and 2) The need to find a new channel for harassment.
Tech BS, bad UI destroying the internet
Yeah, some of the worst internet regulations in history got passed because of bad UI.
UI matters.
Machine learning in python.
I got into a bit of an argument with a person I work with about machine learning just being statistics applied with a sledge hammer.
It was one of the very few times I pulled out 'I am the expert in this field, not you. When you can write the code you can argue' card.
It felt kinda weird.
Does anyone know of any reasonable quality open-access journals for DSP and network related stuff? The IEEE keeps doing things that make me not trust it.
Did I mention that I fucking hate how javascript/node handles async things?
Because I fucking hate it.
When you have something that doesn't act in the default fashion (which is synchronous for javascript, lines of code are executed in order one after the other normally) than you have a special keyword for that, you don't put the special keyword to make things act in what should be the default behaviour.
It looks like I am going to use C++ as a major component for a project. I haven't written C/C++ code for anything other than embedded projects in a long time. We shall see how this goes.
I am going to be playing with this to see if it does what it claims.
I don't exist!
I may be the same inmysocks you see on mastodon.social.... Maybe.
Whatever pronouns you feel like? I would be amused if you alternated.
