I'm perfectly content to see federation whitelisting, blacklisting, and graylisting in the Mastodon ecosystem.
It's clear from the history of email that all three approaches are necessary:
* Blacklists for e.g. the known spammers.
* Whitelists for e.g. corporate email that needs to stay in-house.
* Graylists for e.g. Google Mail, which has to deal with everyone.
The tools for a wide spectrum of federation approaches are being built even now.
email wouldn't have the massive staying power it does if it weren't open to federation
we figured out how to deal with the issues that came with it
The more I think about, the more I kind of like having multiple platforms for the same social media identity. It allows me to keep twitter for... well, exactly what it's good for:
Terse commentary and easy snark. Current affairs and outrage boosting.
Sustaining a loose affiliation with people in my line of work, and developments in that field.
Whereas here, of course, I can develop a parallel and expanded persona while not dissociating one from the other.
The medium is me.
Would you back a Patreon or the like if I ran one to support a queer furry gamedev instance?
Whitelisted federation looks like a practical necessity. Probably a referral system for membership. Might need a more private payment system. Some way to sponsor memberships for devs with needs. Still a proposal in progress.
Hey everyone! I'd like to announce our newest mod, @thefishcrow!
They've been pretty active in the community for a while, and saw a need for some new moderators after our influx, so we're happy to welcome them aboard!
I'd really love to recruit another moderator- please submit some information at the below Google form if you'd like to apply!

a final point i'll make about critically engaging with how you distribute and exercise your resources is this parting thought: gargron isn't the only person who has put or is putting work into this website, but he is the only person getting money out of it. if you can boost his patreon, there's no reason you can't boost mine too.
bleak appreciates your listening. feel free to drop a coin in the jar / boost
