You know what really grinds my gears? When fiber links don't have their full path correctly mapped out on the label and I end up pulling the wrong side of the link cause of someone else's shitty work.
Thankfully I didn't cause any major alarms or outages.
But dammit, pulling the wrong link is such a big source of anxiety for me. Trying really hard to not feel like I've been set up for failure.
@kelseyhusky I felt like shit during the 4 hour drive home. Eventually we opened a support ticket with cisco and had to apply 5 years of backlogged firmware updates to get status lights matching external ports so remote hands could do it.
@kelseyhusky I hate that shit... back in May I was doing some maintenance at one of our remote sites that required hands on.
Long story short.. NetEng thought they had the right link... but the internal port descriptors on this model cisco core router did not match up with the external numbering.
So we played link roulette for 2 hours, I pulled 6 10G fiber links before we gave up because nobody could figure out a way to map the bad link to a physical port.
