re: CW: Father's Day, coming out
Called Dad. Tried to say what I needed to say instead of what I was supposed to say. Couldn't make it work. Couldn't get over the awkward and the uncertainty. Mom in the background being snarky didn't help (nothing bad, she just kept inserting herself. "Hi dad, Happy Father's day, I love you" Dad and I both came to the conclusion that if she was gonna keep talking for both of us we didn't really need to have the call at all.) But I /did/ ask for a time when we could just talk together. So gonna do that right before therapy this week.
CW: Father's Day, coming out
So, the family camping trip got cancelled cause of COVID-19. I didn't send a card this year, but mom's being mom about things. Wants me to come out to dad. At one point things were conditional, had to come out to dad before she'd even try to get my name right, even though I came out to her months ago. Kinda sucky to be held hostage like that. But I'm closing on two years on HRT, he's dying, and if I'm gong to not have him around anymore, then he should know who I am before he goes.
re: Working with the river tribe [UPDATE]
Today's conference call was specifically about our local covid update. As expected, our questions, called "very pointed" questions by our over-chief were acknowledged, and yet again invalidated through lack of response and action.

Liking the... atmosphere. Heh. Got a real blue collar vibe. I get the feeling my debt gets a big penalty every time I get insta-cloned. Cash accumulation for the company store is slow so far, but I really like being given the chance to practice during the tutorial/training. I was starting to get the hang of the multi-tether trick in the opening movie by the time I went to bed.
re: Working with the river tribe
I specifically asked my question referencing the tribe's own principles and how their lack of response was breaking them to force the leaders to at least acknowledge the question.
i never wanted to work for a tribe this big. there's too many overlays and stake holders to get sign-offs from. I'm constantly amazed /anything/ can get done down here.
Working with the river tribe
End of March: "We're switching to a new schedule and new location assignments to accomodate social distancing requirements while you essential employees continue to work to provide 90% of our tribe's profits. Management will be working from home."
Early April: "You all are doing so well. We're going to be providing additional compensation for your essential work during this dangerous and uncertain period. Please remember to keep following all social distancing guidelines."
April-today: "We're still working on the details for the additional compensation."
Last week: "Submit your questions for the cluster all hands" *everyone asks about additional compensation.
Today: "2.5 hours of blathering about success stories, safety updates, and just how awesome AWS is. Our morale has never been higher, even through the pandemic and the protests. No i'm not going to answer any questions from SEA because we're over. I hope you all have a safe, secure, and highly-available day"
I no longer feel bad about being late to work yesterday.
Seattle renting and real estate (public post)
So I know seven queer households offhand in the Seattle area supported by one or two folks making six figures in which everyone else in the house isn't making anywhere near that much.
It's because of the limited nature of housing due to the astronomical price of sales and rent around here.
Which puts the other folks in the household at the mercy of two forces - capitalism and the six figure heads of household. This is a fucked up power imbalance for whom there is currently no reprieve. Not only do you need to earn a living, you need to stay in the good graces of the household head too.
And this setup is done with the best of intentions. Folks want to help each other out but the situation has reached the point where it is the de facto setup. If you're not in tech, you need to find a head of household willing to take you in, unless you can find a two bedroom with space for five people.
These gentrified neighborhoods need near-minimum wage workers for the restaurants and grocery stores but fuck over anyone actually living there.
I don't know much about non-queer households in the area, but the polyamorous nature of our relationships also means that things can get really scary and tangled very fast.
This needs to stop. We need affordable housing. Fucking now.

Gif is a new trickster god. They have many forms, and even if the thumbnail is something g you've seen before, it might've been altered and there is no way to tell until you've seen it all the way through.
We can't even decide how it's pronounced (it's yiff, fite me)
The moving image has always been with us, starting with puppetry and probably back further.

The amount of confederate flag, thin blue lie, own the liberal, punisher skull, 2nd amendment, don't tread on me, come and take them, toxic masculinity surrounding firearms products and information is such a high barrier for entry for someone who has actively disdained, derided, and been scared of for their whole life.
Also, gun website design makes me want to cry. Or shoot someone. So, working as intended?

OK, it seems like the case on transgender rights was bundled with these and is subject to the same 6-3 ruling.
