@jk in all seriousness, there are incremental improvements in VR comfort, somewhat bounded by the speed of display driver evolution and the cryptocurrency freak graphics card racket. In short, like most things, it's capitalism's fault

@jk by 2040 VR will be comfortable and convenient enough for any Facebook Premium Citizen to spend their 👍Coin on. ASMR will be banned because God-Emperor of the Advertainment Division Cyber-Bobby Kotick doesn't personally like it

@body@mastodon.social assuming America has the same military industrial system, it would be branded as a NeuVer strike

@wxcafe@social.wxcafe.net it's extremely funny that you can order mission critical hardware like that in 2021

@noiob also yes it does say I can enable it but why actually would I bother?

@noiob these phones are all 6-12 times the price of my phone which is from 2020. I owned a phone that let me view videos in 1080p in like 2014!

@noiob there are a good deal of stadia games that would run natively on these phones. Why the fuck do i need one of these to run a YouTube video and send inputs. My phone cost £100 and I can do that in the Xbox app or steam link just fine. I'm sure geforce now works, bet the PS now app or whatever does to. Why does my phone's OS vendor outright deny me the ability to use their service? It's not like anything on Android works properly to begin with, is this really about quality control?

@noiob stadia combines all of the downsides of streaming games with all of the downsides of Google with more limitations and a bizarrely high rate of data usage for the youtube-tier video they're actually pushing your way

@noiob besides being a subscription service that you buy games for/on top of, run by a company that's famous for ending services that just fired all of it's games staff? It's restricted to chrome and a handful of pieces of hardware. The performance is entirely tied to your proximity to one of their specific data centers. Back when they were giving away stadia time for free i couldn't even try it because I don't have a Chromecast or a pixel or use google's spyware browser

@noiob they're a fine idea given that, unlike stadia, you _can_ play them, but the speed of light is still a thing.

@noiob they're basically just for people with fast internet. I. Get 30-70 down and they were uncomfortably soupy for me

@body@mastodon.social I couldn't in good faith describe fursuits as snorting raw capitalism, which is something I have described NFTs as. I was wrong, though. There's nothing to snort. It's the delusion of snorting raw capitalism except it has the real cost. It's a cyberpunk blood ritual that doesn't work.

@body@mastodon.social I tend to prefer real objects to absolutely nothing. NFTs are an inverse product. They have a preposterous energy cost & result in nothing. They use hardware that's expensive & unethical to produce that's just going to go into landfill once it's time to bot buy the next gen.
Fursuits don't inherently require petrochemicals to produce (there's an emerging field of bioplastics, the only issue with them is availability) they don't require running 1000 3090s nonstop.

@body@mastodon.social I dont get the first thing. Fursuits... exist? NFTs are a URL glued to a token made from burning 120 kilograms of benzyne

Ebay and my bank are not letting me use my own money that I have, so it would be really excellent if I could earn some commission money please. ko-fi donation/commission link under CW.

They usually take a few years to get really bad, but once they start on that trajectory they'll do anything to keep fucking everyone over to increment a value mostly decided by the opinions of a group of over-privelaged, under-socialised Europeans in ugly and expensive outfits
