I only just now caught up with the news that roughly 1500 children have been separated from their parents by ICE, have been completely lost, and some have been put into the hands of human traffickers.
I live in a country that is undeniably evil, and has cross the threshold into fascism beyond question.
That I continue to live it in comfortably is reason enough that my life should be forfeit. I tacitly support this evil, and I can't begin to parse how vile that makes me.

@Phorm @Thaminga There's a certain degree of "if we didn't eat poison we'd starve" problem, here, too. The United States is among the current crop of moral degenerates and it may never recover its high ground on the world, but there's no country on earth that isn't to some degree complicit in global late-stage capitalism, which is driving a lot of the shit here. There is no walking away from Omelas, only fixing it.

@literorrery @Phorm @Thaminga I *immediately* thought of "The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas" when I read that story, and I'm still full of helpless, sick rage, because yeah--if I walk away from Omelas, I will *die*. I *need* some of the Omelas stuff to survive, I don't want to die, and I don't believe just wandering off and dying quietly will make a difference anyway. hnrrgh.

@literorrery @Phorm Indeed. There isn't exactly a non-capitalist sphere of influence to run to these days, and at this point it's up to us to throw the first brick and get the guillotines going.
Something that I hope will happen very, very soon, at that.
