@mawr Someone is quoted in that as saying that they think it would deter recruitment. To me, that means something is intensely wrong with what draws people to want to be police officers.

@Doephin It just makes so much more sense. The culture of American police is to value their life above all others as first priority and to de-escalate as a secondary action. If their first response to danger wasn't to grab a tool specifically designed to kill people, maybe they wouldn't... y'know.. kill so many people?

@mawr Yup. Most US police are more like occasionally useful highway robbers than public servants, and they get training that makes them so paranoid.
