#meta #tea: Remember, from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, that machine that "invariably delivered a cupful of liquid that was almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea"?
Only decades after reading that, in an office in another country, did I first meet an older British "tea" machine. It could, in theory, produce chocolate, coffee, or tea; but invariably delivered a cupful of brown liquid that was almost, but not quite, entirely unlike any of them.
And I said, "Oh THAT'S what he meant."
Fascism in the Workplace
My company's InfoSec group just put this MOTD in place for all users SSHing into our private internal dev server.
What possible benefit could result from this blatant fascist scare tactic? I just can't understand why companies so frequently treat their employees like criminals.
These sorts of messages are effectively microaggressions against those most negatively affected by late stage capitalism. They hurt the soul in a similar way.

Was remembering the time I was stuck in traffic in DC, and got so frustrated, I HOWLED in rage and bit my steering wheel.
Cop beside me just stared as I shrieked and chewed my steering wheel. I wish I knew what he'd been thinking.

In the UK and Australia, the power coming into your home is referred to as the "mains."
Is there such a term in use here in the US? The best I can find is the "main power drop" but that turns up so many unrelated results.
