in the quest of Doing Nice Things for Ellu:
i recalled late last night about the Hang drum. It's a kind of instrument in a category called 'handpans', it's a mix between a steel drum and a UFO lookin' thing, that makes beautiful music:
(oh, yes, that's it, it was one of my favorite Shpongle tracks that did it.)

@typhlosion The original hang drums actually aren't made anymore, unfortunately! There are a small handful of others around the world that make them, but again, they're rare and exorbitantly expensive. Like, $1.5k-2k USD at least. if not higher. And usually involve waitlists.
Steel tongue drums, while similar in sound, turn out to be much cheaper and readily made- the one I linked was like $650 USD?
BUT I KNOW RIGHT THEY'RE REALLY PRETTY I'VE LOVED THEM FOR YEARS.

@typhlosion rephrase: 'a small handful of others around the world that make similar models'.
Sorry, missed a word. One of those 'brand name defines genre' things.
