why do people insist on shoehorning mandatory stealth parts into games with very basic stealth systems

· · Web · 1 · 0 · 1

okay maybe I just suck at stealth but why not give me a realistic option of just fighting through it?

@noiob it's weird because the game I've played with the best stealth system (METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN [sic]) also has a wonderful fighting system and handles the transition between the two very realistically

like, botw is mostly better than the phantom pain for Kojima reasons but that Kojima second-to-second gameplay is spectacular

@bonzoesc oh yeah, I only played Ground Zeroes so far and the first time I beat the mission I got spotted near the end and barely made it out and it felt so cool

@bonzoesc Zelda kinda feels like they're trying to give the player the bare minimum of a system each time, like there's a handful of combat moves but every fight is basically the same or there's different weapons but within the four or so categories they basically handle the same

@bonzoesc there's a horse taming system but all you gotta do is push the button every time your horse acts up

@bonzoesc and it's fine, right? The game isn't about each single system, and it doesn't rely on them too much

@noiob yeah, and that's why it feels brilliant; you can generally get a feel for how the systems work and will react to your actions

@bonzoesc but this stealth challenge just makes me feel bad, like I can wing the puzzles I don't fully understand but this is very clear about not allowing me to do that

@noiob yeah if you're in the part I think you are (north of the Weird About Presentation of Gender Desert) that dungeon is kinda blah

@bonzoesc just made it through! and I think everything's been said about that fucken desert

@noiob bless the shark that's a hunk and the bird that's a jerk tho

@bonzoesc also the goron friend, the "don't alert the guards" challenge was very cheesable

@bonzoesc I've never felt more comfortable with a buncha people calling be "brother"

@noiob solid refutation of the "china, il" episode about men who call other men "brother"

@noiob adult swim cartoon about the life of college professors and students written by a guy who never went to college

@bonzoesc just a a sidenote why is this boss such a pushover

@noiob sounds like it's cause you're relatively good at the game after playing it for a while?

@bonzoesc no you can literally beat his first two phases by just standing still and shooting at the right moment

@noiob huh

it's been not quite two years since I've played it

@noiob w/e, late is great for single player, because games are cheaper

cleaned up on used 360 games after the xbone was out

@bonzoesc yeah, not Nintendo games, though I did get this one slightly discounted in the eShop sale

@noiob getting used cartridges might be cheaper? idk, I'm too lazy to go to a store

@bonzoesc I bought it digitally. Not sure how expensive the cart is used but I bet it holds its value quite well

@noiob if you're ok with the themes, violence, and kinda squicky (I'm saying this as a cishet guy re: the bikini sniper) sexual content of phantom pain it's a brilliant game

@bonzoesc oh I'm sure once I know the reason for her outfit I'm gonna be ashamed! /s

okay but seriously I have it installed I might just try to play 3 and 4 before it (I played 2 and co-oped 1 with friends and they were certainly worth the time)

@bonzoesc @noiob I think this is generally just A Thing with Kojima's games

like he's just generally Very Shitty about women and all but the games, as games, are fantastic
