how is the steam deck official dock a hundred european dollars

also why is the steam frontpage trying to get me to buy one when it knows full well that i dont own a steam deck

@codl it's apparently just a regular USB-C dock that you could use with any laptop (and likewise any regular USB-C dock works with the deck, this one just acts as a stand too)

€100 is weird though, it's only $80 over here. import fees I guess?

@Felthry it's wild, thinkpad docks with the weird proprietary connector are cheaper

@codl @Felthry yeah cuz they just relay the signal, the Thinkpad has all the things already and the dock just breaks it out into separate ports. USB-C docks need to have pretty powerful hardware

@noiob @codl That was how all laptop docks worked, once upon a time. then USB 3 came out and everyone wants to use one connector for everything

@Felthry @codl yeah because it's great

my Steam deck just plugs into my dock at work and immediately uses all the connected peripherals and both screens

@Felthry @codl oh and so does my iPad. Sadly my phone doesn't
