re: birdsite
@raspberry @ThreeLetterMax@elekk.xyz Yeah, it cut me off a lot socially but I realllly don't have the executive function to consistently not-engage with all Twitter's "engage with terrible things" encouragement systems
I've settled into a pattern of using audiobooks for fiction & visual reading for nonfiction
I think cuz the I generally use former for more relaxation or while doing something with my hands, whereas nonfiction stuff tends to require more undivided attention
Not always, but generally?
I still have The Power Broker audiobook to finish, but.. I think I made it through 10 or 16hrs, and after that much I *really* needed to wash the taste of grubby 20th century US politics out of my head
@variance oh wow, that's one big mood
are RTs okay?
I'll probably reread Discipline & Punish and Birth of the Clinic at some point, which are both vgood (both are better introduction points to his core ideas) but they're "Space Opera Doorstop Book" kinda length compared with History of Sexuality, so more of a commitment in terms of ability to invest focus & reading time
re: exercise blah
@variance I seem to be ridiculously flexible in every ligament that isn't the back of my legs
I did Taekwondo for 2-6hrs a week for about 3 years, which meant lots and lots of hamstring stretches at ballet bars and stuff
Still couldn't touch my toes.. 🤷
So this is *extremely* relatable xP
I tend to write with "concept/other concept" a lot
I guess as a way of conveying multiple layers of meaning or a single meaning that one English word or phrase won't accurately encompass
I wish there was a way of doing that in phonetic speech..
I've caught myself saying "X slash Y" out loud a few times, but it's way more awkward
sexuality discourse, clownjoke pooptoot
A clown went to a doctor's clinic, sat down and said
"Doctor, I feel like the social stigma, isolation & alienation of various 'kink' experiences has done profound social & psychological harm to myself and so many friends I've lost count."
"You are just appropriating the experiences of queer and trans people." replied the doctor. "Stop doing that, and you will be happy!"
"But doctor!" the clown cried
"I am queer and trans!"
@Brainship ohhhhh that's amazing! I look forward to it if you manage to get pics ^^
Though to be honest I'm liking having one easy to paint army that just takes to Contrast paints like they were made for it (Seraphon) and one that's intricate swirly armour and a tonne of details
It makes for a good change in.. Painting.. Flavour.. Uh. Paintfeel?
re: kink, petplay // (Terra Ignota book 1 spoilers, in-fiction theology)
@Lioness What immediately springs to mind for me is a character in Ada Palmer's Terra Ignota series, who sees himself as the visiting God of another universe
He only really sees the God of the universe he's inhabiting as his (so far silent, but present) equal. In his perspective other creatures have minds and experiences, but their actions are ultimately the deterministic manifestation of an omnipotent God. As a result, he treats those humans closest to him more like pets than equals, which is explicitly highlighted a few times.
(There's a whole lot of complications thrown in by the setting/characters in question + unreliable narrator, but this risks going both wildly tangential and wildly spoilery)
