Medical
It's a trait that tends to go in common with a range of genetic conditions, so if they've access re insurance/etc, getting tested for EDS/Marfan's Syndrome/etc is something yr friend might wanna look into. Not least cuz some have risky heart stuff.
(I don't wanna be "ahh scary!!"- I just had to get all this stuff tested as an adult myself, cuz no one thought to test for any til I was 23; The heart stuff was just an ECG also, which are relatively common/quick/easy)
@daylight Is yr friend tall & skinny? It generally goes along with a "Marfanoid build", which is, yeah basically "looking hella Yaoi" in terms of elongated body proportions, being hyperflexible, etc.
Doesn't always, but if it's genetic, ppl tend to have a grab-bag of the skeletal characteristics.
@daylight Having arachnodactyly/EDS means I have to make a conscious effort to *not* use my body as a reference
Otherwise everyone I draw goes Yaoi Proportions real fast
The fediverse is kept a largely safe and happy place by a fortress wall of medium articles the bemoan the fact that the fediverse is hopeless and will never succeed. That fortress wall was shoddily built for us by techbros and journalists and we must take responsibility for maintaining it. If we don't start repairing the cracking masonry with new medium articles about how mastodon simply can't grow fast enough for real humans to use it then the walls will crumble. Do your part.
re: Skills & Disability Thinkin' (~+)
Liiiiiike it's kinda embarrassing how long it took me to work out that
A) I'm not gonna ever be good at drawing while not looking at my hand, that's not a practice-thing for me (dyspraxia, hand-eye co-ordination, all that jazz)
and then
B) Why even when I acquired a screen-tablet, I kept getting disaffected & going back to sketchbooks or lapsing entirely (slippery surface amplifying poor motor control).
This has taken years! I only started using adaptations /this year/ for A causing me to constantly misclick things when using a mouse. I only noticed it wasn't an 'Everyone does that.. Probably?' thing this year!
But I'm not pissed at the wasted time, just.. Happy I'm identifying this stuff, and finding workarounds.
Skills & Disability Thinkin' (~+)
I think one of the hardest parts of learning any skill field when you have disabilities that affect it (especially in non-obvious ways) is working out: what's
"Practice fixes that"
"Practice will fix that.. But it'll take a helluva lot longer for you"
"You need to work out the pitfalls yr disability causes, and find adaptations"
and what's "No this is just not going to go away, you need to find an alternate route or technique"
B/c it's the kinda thing that more often than not you just can't.. Find accurate advice on (you'll always get A).
It's a tonne of individual self-learning and maintaining kindness towards yourself so you can recognise potential obstacles.
Infinity War, Not Really Spoilers
I am so far out of touch with the Disnarvel movies
Also they really gutted Thanos' backstory & motives, huh
And why for a super-smart villain with power over primal elements of the fabric of the universe itself.. ..does he just use them to shoot beams of CGI at people
"Aha, mastery over reality itself! With this, I can shoot Purple at my enemies!"
TLDR: It is all very nonsensical, read the Jim Starling comics
I think I just work better in pencil + paper, which is rlly very annoying to me, because I keep wanting to do digital art! And it's so.. slow.
And part of that is just the texture isn't.. Right? It's too slippy, my lines go too fast & uncontrollable (Dysgraphia affects my drawing style a lot, this is likely also a result).
I wonder if I could put textured transparent-something over the surface and generate some resistance without being bumpy enough to mess up lines. Do people do that..?
This is a graffiti-free zone.
