re: meat substitutes: Mycoprotein
@InvaderXan My biggest 'find' recently with mycoprotein has been the Quorn-brand pasties
They're not amazing, but they're fine, and most importantly of all: They're *vegetarian pasties that aren't Cheese & Onion*. 🎊
re: meat substitutes: Mycoprotein
@InvaderXan It depends on the thing in particular, but overall as a brand I find them too greasy. But I have a very low tolerance for greasy food, so ymmv? (Avoid the red pepper + chorizo sausages, though; They're *super* greasy)
Some of the pastry + quorn ones are fine, though.
@daylight I am 100% down for this
re: meat substitutes & nutrients
@InvaderXan Do you know if all-in-one multivitamin pills tend to cover these bases? DHA, Taurine and such?
I started supplementing my (vegetarian) diet a few years back with chicken to get more protein, but I'm aware that's likely not adding all of these.
(I know the answer is most likely "it depends on the brand in question", but like, whether generally speaking they don't tend to cover DHA would be handy knowledge if you happen to have it)
re: meat substitutes: Mycoprotein
@InvaderXan Quorn is great. I get what you mean about filaments, it's certainly closer than other substitutes.
It gets compared to chicken a lot? Which I find kinda bizarre, because texture-wise it doesn't have the stringy-filament bit at all. But like chicken it makes for a good neutral protein base for other flavours to go on top of.
Aside from Quorn, I think Linda McCartney brand stuff uses mycoprotein. (UK as well, though)
Gone back to Digimon Cybersleuth after taking a long break from it. It's a good kinda.. Chilling out kinda RPG. There's plenty of stuff you can grind but no feeling of it being a necessary step for plot/etc progression.
It's.. Really good? Like, the plot has a lot of wtf, but with plenty of sincere moments, and it's mechanically dense without being overwhelmingly so.
The designs are stiiiiiill very 90s, but that's kinda Digimon's thing, so.. Not a big enough deal to be offputting to me.
Community Stuff
Going out reminded me how much I don't go out anymore.. But there's not really anything in Nottingham that interests me enough for all the stress and fatigue to be worth it (mostly, but not exclusively, from travel).
Online community is my preferred type. Outdoors is kinda.. There's nice bits, but the bits with humans in consist of: Shops, roads to shops, and noisy + crowded places where ppl host group events.

Currently listening to The Craft Sequence by Max Gladstone. They're very good (though frequently very dark), and was interesting to find the author had written one of the articles about the Terra Ignota books I'm reading through on and off atm (https://adapalmer.com/publication/seven-surrenders/terra-ignota-crooked-timber-seminar/)
re: movie recommendations about the underworld
@kara_dreamer@plural.cafe Pan's Labyrinth springs to mind.
Nightbreed is like, the most "Queer Monster Subculture Metaphors" movie ever, with heavy/literal underworld stuff
(Also, cuz it's a really cool word I don't often get such a perfect excuse to use: Cthonic! Cthonic, cthonic, cthonic, cthonic. Okay, got that out of my system)
re: Twine help?
@Brainship Ahh, okay I'm glad!
And yeah, general open offer to try and help as best I can! ^^
The syntax is a little different from 1.4.2, but not too much.
re: Twine help?
@Brainship Okay so, I wanna help; I used to do Twines a lot, and teach Twine on and off (at whatever cons would have me). My knowledge is with 1.8.2, and I think you're working in 2? Buuuuuuuuut it should still work.
(I'm gonna double check that tho before like, telling you "yep do this". If I get forgetful or go flop without like, getting back to you on this, poke me here or on Discord?)
@colon_three it is a very good selfie, tbf
Age of Wonders 3 is free on Humble atm! It's probably my favourite 4X, and has a good balance of "Heroes of Might & Magic mixed with Civilisation" kinda gameplay.
Nature, Alcohol
"Pen-tailed treeshrews are the only known mammals that consume alcohol every night, other than humans. According to a study of treeshrews in Malaysia, they spend several hours per night consuming the equivalent of 10 to 12 glasses of wine with an alcohol content up to 3.8% drinking naturally fermented nectar of the bertam palm. This nectar contains one of the highest alcohol concentrations of all natural foods. Pen-tailed treeshrews frequently consume large amounts of this nectar while showing no signs of intoxication."

"10 to 12 glasses of wine [per night]"

..What the heck, pen-tailed treeshrew?
(It seems they just metabolise ethanol really, *really* well)
(If you're on a tight budget and need one, do what I used to: Get an old top you don't need, a friend you trust, and a lotta duct tape. You can make a cast of yr torso that way pretty easily, it's usually called a duct tape dummy, there's tonnes of tutorials online)
