Back on my Terra Ignota BS Again (abstract theme, no spoilers)

I think both a large part of what makes Terra Ignota such a great series and what contributes the most jarring sense of missing or altered parts of the narrative is that the narrator is embedded in a cultural episteme that's familiar enough to us to not be utterly alien, but results in many visibly "off" things to someone approaching it from outside that perspective.

So while Mycroft is a *massively* unreliable narrator, the unreliability of the resulting text is not entirely (debate topic: is not primarily?) an individual quality so much as a result of his culture.

Being able to pause & slow down time makes it a heck of a lot more accessible when learning or brainfoggy, as well as like

If you've followed me long enough, you know I basically treat every Total War as a very bloodthirsty Pokemon Snap game

Total War: Shogun 2's gonna be free from the 27th-1st, and is generally agreed to be one of the best games in the franchise.

Shogun 2 was the game that got me into the series, it's very good stuff, and Total War's prettymuch the only realtime-combat strategy battle type thing I play.

I've settled into a pattern of using audiobooks for fiction & visual reading for nonfiction

I think cuz the I generally use former for more relaxation or while doing something with my hands, whereas nonfiction stuff tends to require more undivided attention

Not always, but generally?

I still have The Power Broker audiobook to finish, but.. I think I made it through 10 or 16hrs, and after that much I *really* needed to wash the taste of grubby 20th century US politics out of my head

I'll probably reread Discipline & Punish and Birth of the Clinic at some point, which are both vgood (both are better introduction points to his core ideas) but they're "Space Opera Doorstop Book" kinda length compared with History of Sexuality, so more of a commitment in terms of ability to invest focus & reading time

Properly reading more Foucault for the first time in like a decade is good.

His stuff's dense and academic but he has a very off-the-cuff sense of humour that makes the end result a lot less dry than it could be.

It holds up well, and still feels very relevant.

one silver lining is watching lots of people streaming activities

and seeing so much "spontaneous cat interruption" improv

I tend to write with "concept/other concept" a lot

I guess as a way of conveying multiple layers of meaning or a single meaning that one English word or phrase won't accurately encompass

I wish there was a way of doing that in phonetic speech..

I've caught myself saying "X slash Y" out loud a few times, but it's way more awkward

A clown went to a doctor's clinic, sat down and said

"Doctor, I feel like the social stigma, isolation & alienation of various 'kink' experiences has done profound social & psychological harm to myself and so many friends I've lost count."

"You are just appropriating the experiences of queer and trans people." replied the doctor. "Stop doing that, and you will be happy!"

"But doctor!" the clown cried

"I am queer and trans!"

Though to be honest I'm liking having one easy to paint army that just takes to Contrast paints like they were made for it (Seraphon) and one that's intricate swirly armour and a tonne of details

It makes for a good change in.. Painting.. Flavour.. Uh. Paintfeel?

I have 2 Age of Sigmar forces on the go, both are currently at 10 infantry & 1 hero unit.

One of them took like, 2-3 weeks to hit that point, the other took 3-4 months

I will give you a moment to guess which are the elves.

So many gemstones.

Genuinely spent a while trying to work out how to phrase that without "stupid", but feels like it's tied into that narrative at a very deep level

Think trying to talk about it without engaging with that angle at all would be worse;- The core appeal is pairing a simple story of events with the innate implication that the reader is part of a [rational, calm, mature, intelligent] superior group

I suspect it's not news to anyone here that the chorus of

"Everyone who isn't me is stupid and greedy!! That's why things are bad!!! Stop hoarding!!!!!!"

That's going around is primarily working as a means of mass self-soothing, rather than an attempt at a workable explanation of the situation we are in.

Nontheless, this still is a good/short article on supply chain dynamics that's worth a read

I have achieved better wristbraces!

Cuz there ought to be more options than "black, medical blue or beige", especially if you're like me and have to wear them a *lot*.

Going to improve on some stuff in later designs (stronger interfacing, lengthen the top strap, widen the main body beneath the thumb opening), but these work and I'm happy with how they turned out!

Frostgrave's core book + co-op/solo materials are currently free! Also resources on how to play it with Lego.

One of my favourite skirmish games, so check it out if dice-rolling wizardbiffs are your thing
