I cannot express how happy this wrestling match between two invisible men makes me. 😂 It's so good
longer explain
There's "simplify for general consumption" and then there's "simplify to the point yr biases become the dominant message". Primitive/developed distinctions definitely fall in the latter category.
Everything evolves! Some species just refine or develop different traits from others, settle on traits that are more recognisably distinct from the rest of the group, or are more recognisably distinct from their ancestors.
Like, a rat 'looks' more like an early mammal than a bat or a kangaroo, because it fills a similar ecological niche to many of them. That doesn't make the rat more 'primitive' or the kangaroo more 'developed', and it doesn't mean the rat's been twiddling its genetic thumbs while the others evolved 'past it'.
It's a way of introducing evolutionary concepts that carries a whole lotta baggage that's false and encourages an outdated view of Natural Heirarchies and all that Aristotlean jazz.
AEW wrestleblather
I love how every heel who promos against Orange Cassidy has to just go with "His laid-back, cool guy attitude annoys me!!!"
I suppose when you only have one character beat for people to riff on it forces them into a limited range
But it does make a lotta guys suddenly come across like a highschool principle from a 90s sitcom
Oh no your queer curiosity has dragged you into a subterranean subculture of weirdos
Surprise, you were one already and that's cool as heck
Monster Hunter musings, depression stuff
Trying to work out if my "it's fine, I guess" on Monster Hunter: Rise is just depression
Like, any specific criticism is mostly minor stuff, and there are some improvements. It's just not grabbing me on a personal level.
I don't remember ever playing one of the prior games and not being depressed, is the thing
Maybe at 5 games in I just need a break from the series. Or to wait til it's on PC & play it with K, like we did the last couple
Probably that last bit, really.
physical health, shoes, insoles/orthotics
All my shoes are way too shallow for insoles. D: Or at least for these insoles, they have pretty sturdy pads on the heel which push my heel way too far up in my Vans, and squish my toes in my (more Converse-shaped) ankle sneakers.
Getting shoes that just fit normally is hard enough, I guess I shoulda figured I couldn't cram something else in there too.. orz
Will be getting some probably-slightly-too-big walking shoes soon, hoping the two balance each other out. 🤞
physical health, exercise, injury
Seem to have damaged the tendons at the bottom of my right foot, and a little on the left. Need to give that time to heal. Started off as a pinprick pain at the bottom of my foot, has spread and become a more traditional sort of 'area of pain' and also weird stabs of pain in my middle toes (Which makes it sound increasingly unlikely to be Plantar Fascitis, which was my first bet).
Almost certainly from going on regular 3km~ walks after barely walking anywhere. Doing so in shoes with no arch support probably contributed some as well. Vans are comfy but not walking shoes.
Realising just how much sitting posture is reliant on how much of your weight & balance is going through your feet. How weight much you place on your feet completely changes the tilt of your hips and lower spine.
(Also how much being tall messes with all the good-posture stuff in ways that rarely ever get brought up)

This is a very cool look into the development of Capcom vs SNK 1 & 2. I only played a bit of 2, but it was a strikingly stylish game with nothing else quite like it.
This is a graffiti-free zone.
