Hackers is Nightbreed with computers

Nightbreed is Hackers with puppets

Been putting a lot of time into Pokemon Shield lately. It's so good, the new games are real huge steps forward from Sun/Moon in a way I wasn't really expecting, in terms of making it easier to get into and getting rid of a lot of excess faff, and new features that feel like meaningful additions.

Monster Hunter musings, depression stuff

Trying to work out if my "it's fine, I guess" on Monster Hunter: Rise is just depression

Like, any specific criticism is mostly minor stuff, and there are some improvements. It's just not grabbing me on a personal level.

I don't remember ever playing one of the prior games and not being depressed, is the thing

Maybe at 5 games in I just need a break from the series. Or to wait til it's on PC & play it with K, like we did the last couple

Probably that last bit, really.

I am trying to follow an American pattern for some clothes, and it is frankly worrying. Who measures things in 'eighths of a yard'? No-one else's tapemeasure has those on. Just say it in inches.

physical health, shoes, insoles/orthotics

All my shoes are way too shallow for insoles. D: Or at least for these insoles, they have pretty sturdy pads on the heel which push my heel way too far up in my Vans, and squish my toes in my (more Converse-shaped) ankle sneakers.

Getting shoes that just fit normally is hard enough, I guess I shoulda figured I couldn't cram something else in there too.. orz

Will be getting some probably-slightly-too-big walking shoes soon, hoping the two balance each other out. 🤞

That feeling when you run out of your favourite fabric and spend the rest of your days mournfully browsing "almost, but not quite it" alternatives

Hoping to someday be reunited..

earworm

Every time I catch a Goldeen in Pokemon Go, I get earwormed with 'Jolene' by Dolly Parton for hours afterwards

Just, yknow

Sung to a cartoon fish

physical health, exercise, injury

Seem to have damaged the tendons at the bottom of my right foot, and a little on the left. Need to give that time to heal. Started off as a pinprick pain at the bottom of my foot, has spread and become a more traditional sort of 'area of pain' and also weird stabs of pain in my middle toes (Which makes it sound increasingly unlikely to be Plantar Fascitis, which was my first bet).

Almost certainly from going on regular 3km~ walks after barely walking anywhere. Doing so in shoes with no arch support probably contributed some as well. Vans are comfy but not walking shoes.

Realising just how much sitting posture is reliant on how much of your weight & balance is going through your feet. How weight much you place on your feet completely changes the tilt of your hips and lower spine.

(Also how much being tall messes with all the good-posture stuff in ways that rarely ever get brought up)

This is a very cool look into the development of Capcom vs SNK 1 & 2. I only played a bit of 2, but it was a strikingly stylish game with nothing else quite like it.

"'Ostensible', which descends from the Latin word 'ostendere' ('to show'), suggests a discrepancy between a declared or implied aim or reason and the true one."

..So what you're telling me here is that Romans thought lying was moé

Finally made a pun so bad to get a partner to groan and make a face of despairing disappointment for a good 5 seconds

A bizarre bit of trivia I will always treasure is when a colony of leafcutter ants escaped inside the Millennium Dome

adhd, reddit being reddit

istg anytime someone posts a problem on r/adhd there will be 3 people piping up to say they've had that problem, and it's actually the best thing that ever happened to them

(There's Slay the Spire filling a lot of that time too, I just tend to assume most people into such things have already heard of it)

Recently been spending a lot of time with turn-based roguelites. Griftlands is very good. Renowned Explorers is surprisingly deep. Both have multifaceted gameplay that goes indepth into non-combat options, which is cool.

Griftlands has an excellent snail mom-friend and a lot of emergent "that rando you bought a drink for/beat up earlier is suddenly really important" character stuff

Renowned Explorers has a luchador lady delivering crushing verbal putdowns on passing sheep

Both are good

AEW Dynamite 2/12/20

I spent the whole of the Omega/Moxley match wondering why the guy with Kenny Omega was wearing a rose on his lapel

And then Jon Moxley pushed him and it exploded like they were in Utena
