I'm honestly surprised that Rust's async stuff is as ergonomic to use, if not more ergonomic, than Kotlin's coroutines. The lack of intrinsically scoped tasks leaves a little to be desired, but Rust compiles everything down to something so much smaller and more concise, and the compile times so far haven't been offensive at all.
Alan Turing bday, suicide mention
Alan Turing was born today
He was gay and neurodivergent, famous for 'Turing machine,' a model for modern/general purpose computers
he was also chemically castrated by his government for being gay (instead of prison time), and later committed suicide at 41
Rest in Power, Alan
I mean he was terrible and did terrible things. But he was the best antagonist for sure.
i mean it's no secret that ARK is a poorly optimized mess, but dear god, this is embararssing for such a high profile game
Today is #Juneteenth in the United States and Labour Day in Trinidad & Tobago.
To me, it seems like today is a day full of liberation energy, a day when that energy bears fruit.
Today, you give back to Black people, and pay them for their work.
so here's some theology that has really struck me, from facebook, i believe the original quote from someone called Xavier Swain
it's not one of those funny-ha-ha #christian memes, but it's some food for thought, and i feel like @magicalmilly is going to appreciate the metaphor going on here

@yaodema anisotropic filtering has no added storage cost, but it still is relevant for gpu bandwidth on the switch I think
re: new pokemon® product
It's 2020. Realistic lighting is not really hard to design, nor is it technically difficult anymore. Environment artist have much more tools at their disposal to make nice looking terrain than just modeling software and seamless repeating textures. Is the industry regressing? What is going on?
re: new pokemon® product
My second observation is that the terrain geometry is all surprisingly low poly, with ugly stretched texturemapping that, once again, just like SwSh, looks like it came out of the PS2 era and got some normal maps thrown on it. There's no vertex painting to even try to blend intersections between rocks and sand.
Everything looks better than SwSh but still does not look like a game that will invariably be a best seller should.
new pokemon® product
This game's lighting looks... Wrong. Like really, really sloppy wrong.
It's like they cranked up the ambient blue lighting to compensate for badly tuned directional sunlight and as a result there's bizarre blue color channel clipping on environment surfaces everywhere in the trailer. It's really obvious in the last scene and in the scene with the Blastoise. I sincerely hope it isn't going to be like this at release.
What the hell is going on with first party Switch games?
@radicalrobit the liberals won't stop infringing my rights by mildly inconveniencing my consumer identity with real world issues!
