Okay Mastodon! What weird/obscure video games did you play a ton of as a kid because they were all you had access to?
@starkatt pod racing was literally my favorite thing to come out of star wars ep 1!!!
@vahnj I know it's actually pretty good! Cool mechanics and level design. Unfortunately I've tried replaying it and doesn't quite hold up as being decent at games now makes it way too easy.
@starkatt I imagine that's true for early game - I revisited it a few years ago with my old save file and late game racing was real hard for me because of just how fast the racetrack goes by!
@vahnj huh, I found it all pretty easy? but maybe that's in part because I've sunk in an absurd number of hours as a kid and have the muscle memory.
@vahnj That One Sky City invitational track with the narrow rail-less paths is always hard though.
@starkatt *remembers* aaaaaaaaaaugh it was so hard
@vahnj knowing basically all the shortcuts in the game probably helps too.
@starkatt 7th Guest, The Island Of Dr Brain, and Mixed Up Mother Goose first come to mind. Crystal Caves, Bio Menace, and Kingdom Of Kroz/Kroz series were also pretty heavily played
@starkatt Moraff's Dungeon from Moraff's Big Blue Disk is one of the most obscure games I know of
Some of mine. Maybe not that obscure really, but:
Star Wars Episode 1:racer. Podracing game. Actually pretty cool.
Re-Volt, a kart racing game where you play RC cars.
The weirdest of the bunch: Vangers, a russian-developed scifi car exploration/combat game I honestly never got very far in because the UI was unbelievably muddy and hard to read.
