Mastodon harassment stuff?
Does anyone have a primer on what's going on? Because I have no idea. I'm just seeing the backscatter.
Mastodon harassment stuff?
@starkatt I found one of the accounts in question (cogsdev), and in my opinion moderation is definitely called for. Even if the points being made are legitimate, the personal attacks being made alongside them are unacceptable.
Unfortunately, the person who needs moderation is trans, disadvantaged, and saying "anyone who moderates me is a transphobe" and... well... she's not utterly wrong about 100% of things, so it's hard to feel okay about silencing people like that.
Mastodon harassment stuff?
@starkatt That's the extent of what I'm comfortable trying to guess/discern on this little research. From here, I'd rather defer to somebody who has more context.
Mastodon harassment stuff?
@starkatt I want to follow up here, only because I spoke up earlier and pointed at one person, to say that there's apparently a whole crew of people engaging in problems, and I only found one. I would like to acknowledge that my past commentary probably looked like a reduction of a complex issue to a single set of user interactions, and it's very much deeper than that.
With that, my knowledge is spent, and I intend to disengage because I don't want to spread bad data.
Mastodon harassment stuff?
@starkatt So, what little I've gleaned from about five minutes of research is that there are some very loud and objectionable people on mastodon.social who are abusing the social contract and other users, and some moderators who have been very slow to get involved, and some users who are saying "the promise of this place was moderation; that's not happening and we want out," and the mastodon mods are saying "moderating American conversations from Europe is hard."
