I don't actually like Captain's Edition as much as the stock FTL game.
FTL is really beautifully balanced. CE adds a lot of stuff that dilutes a lot of the core mechanics and economies, and while the new content is interesting, the balance and tradeoffs in the limited stock toolkits are ultimately what makes FTL compelling.
Damage control triage is a pretty entertaining part of FTL, especially in the Flagship fight.
"Okay so I have two hull breaches, three fires, my crew is half dead, there's an incoming boarding party, and the life support room is broken and depressurized... but if I can keep my weapons working, and get one or two good volleys off... things will be fine. It's *fine*."
@starkatt I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way! I like some of the new stuff, but it's just too much to keep track of. Especially 'cause I hadn't really figured out all of the base game yet.
Fortunately, there's a switch to turn off the advanced content. I... keep forgetting to do that!
@ElectricKeet oh, I love Advanced Edition (especially flak); it's the Captain's Edition mod that doesn't suit me.
@starkatt Oops! Sorry, got confused there. I am a simple Keet. *blush*
And yes, I'll admit to loving flak cannons waaaaaaay too much, but... actually, I'm gonna make a separate post about flak cannons. *grin*
What I love about the way FTL is balanced is that some weapons are more generally useful than others -- and some are kinda bad most of the time -- but almost every single weapon has a loadout that it's an ideal fit for and is exactly what you want.
