@starkatt I've been playing it for way too long by now, and honestly what irks me most is the way the orcs are portrayed (I guess one can partly blame Tolkien for that). At this point, I'd love to hear your take on the violence in the game, actually. If you're still up for it + when you find the time, obviously

@noiob So I think what bothered me most about it was that killing orcs was considered a contextless, a priori good thing to do.

@noiob Killing orcs was the /goal/, not a means to any end.

@starkatt Uh, yeah, kinda, but the end goal is still somehow reaching The Hand or whoever, to lift that ominous curse of undeadness. Kinda interesting how Mister model ranger doesn't give two shits about defending the kingdoms of men or w/e

@starkatt I think you must've seen the whole "introduction" by then, but uuh it's weak and short

@noiob I felt like a plot /existed/, but it really connect with the game and all I had to actually do was go kill the given orcs.

@starkatt yeah, I think they decided that the "orcs get pissed that you can't die and uhhh also beat each other up" system was good enough as a story replacement for most of the game

@noiob tbf, a lot of my frustration was also that I kept running into the same chief and he kept kicking my ass more and more decisively/

@starkatt Heh, I consider that one of the strong parts of the game, you gotta maybe find another way to do the thing (and the game gives you some nice tools)

@starkatt I guess I'd be a lot more down with the system if it was just orcs versus orcs, with some kind of story between them? or sth

not even talking about how the player can basically brainwash orcs into fighting for them

@noiob yeah I didn't get that far but definitely remember a lot of people saying "uhh this is kind of not great in the context of race-based slavery"
