@starkatt this is the part where I go Extremely Jewish and suggest y’all are *repairing* it.

Every once in a while I think about what me and especially some of my friends are doing re: gender, and I'm like "fuck yeah, we're breaking the world!"

Excited about a new smart phone (+)

@Felthry @mawr I do recommend actually checking the specific bands supported. My last phone was an Asus model meant for Asian markets, and even though it worked on my carrier lack of correct band compatibility made it get garbage reception indoors.

@Felthry (farthest I got was a couple half-remembered semesters of college calculus.)

@Felthry I'll confess, my math isn't nearly strong enough to actually understand it.

@Felthry "trololol you think the universe is made out of /things/..."

A recurring motif in this book is a three-pointed milky way hanging above a barren world made of glass, and fuck that's a compelling image. I kinda want art of that.

I nominate the Tsiolkovsky Rocket Equation as a candidate for "most frustrating physics equation". You can just hear that natural log mocking you.

@green I have now witnessed a bear catch a salmon live via webcam! Thank you!

Hrm. Attempts to upgrade the rainbow sign's power supply have been delayed by my having an on/off switch handy to splice in.

Bonus, I can use this as an opportunity to make the connectors something other than awful 9v snaps. I wonder if I can find barrel jacks locally anywere?

Katt talks about wiring phases

AC power voltage isn't measured zero-to-peak! The peak voltage of a "120V" sine wave is actually 170V.

120V is the "RMS" (root mean square) voltage.

"For alternating electric current, RMS is equal to the value of the direct current that would produce the same average power dissipation in a resistive load."

In industrial settings you'll also see 480V three-phase power. That's the brown, orange, and yellow hots (aka "BOY colors").

Hot to neutral is 277V and hot-to-hot is 480V.

I haven't worked with this yet.
