Thing I lowkey appreciate about this game: your map is just a map, not a GPS. It's not even a very good map. You don't have a compass either. Getting disoriented or even lost is totally a thing that can happen.

If you played Firewatch and said "y'know, I wish this game had more hiking", The Long Dark may be a game for you :)

Okay, walking across a lake in The Long Dark and suddenly hearing creaking noises and seeing "WEAK ICE" flashing on the screen in red letters is one of the scariest things I've ever experienced in a videogame.

Hmm. Not being easily able to explain what "I'm a fox" means to someone outside of my subculture is an experience that *really* emphasizes how crucial cultural context is to understanding belief systems, especially metaphysical ones.

One at least partial solution would be having wolves de-spawn when scared off by torches etc.

"oh, fuck, a wolf is nearby and seems interested in me, I hope I don't get eaten" would be a lot more interesting then "Bleh, there's another three wolves outside, I'll probably have to fight off like two of them."
