We currently seem to be living in a state of seemingly-endless incrementalism, where people have to affix themselves to norms, and ostracise and villify a particular state of experience or expression, until that moves a little and there are new norms and new dangerous deviants. In this context, every 'success' in this system isn't really a success - it implies there is something deeper within our society that is wrong.

If we live in a society where people are valued based on what is considered 'normal' or what the prevailing trends are, then we can never have a truly civilised or decent society.
Went to three different stores for art supplies today and got products that should do what I need from all of them.

written by the mycologist (phd? maybe?) teaching about artistic uses of wood fungi, under a pen name
it's about space lesbians & the back cover contains the phrase "telepathic control of cellulose"
and I haven't picked it up yet because I'm afraid that nothing could live up to my hopes & expectations

Wondering what to put in the description field on an image? A quick guide:
1. Just say what's in the image--you don't need to say it's an image.
2. Describe only what's relevant to the conversation. "Annalee writing in a notebook" or "An example of candid portraiture" or "A person using a fountain pen" are all good captions of the same image, in different contexts.
3. All text that's meant to be read should be transcribed. Screencap? Transcribe. Sign in background of selfie? Don't transcribe.

One cool thing about how fast memes and slang come and go these days is how easy it’s gonna be to date texts. The English subtitles for Yakuza 0 contain the word “butthurt,” so in the absence of any other context I can date the translation to between 2014 and 2016.
