they're usually "if it comes overclocked out of the box, you're in for a real bad time" and "don't buy 2133MHz RAM when your CPU will downclock it to 1666MHz" and also "I will frown if there is any references to cr1tik4l or whatever on the box"

@dog @ticky I have an Alienware Alpha, it's tiny and relatively performant in the mid-range model. the HDMI input on it isn't able to record tho :(

@syka @ticky Yeah I was definitely considering an Alpha. Similar size to what I'm looking at, though the green logo on the case is a bit too gamery.

@ticky @syka I'll probably do a more thorough comparison once I've settled on parts, but basically all I care about at this point is "what SSD is decently fast and won't die young"

@ticky @dog conventional wisdom is "none but Intel are the least bad" last time I checked. I don't even trust the one in my Mac

@ticky @dog just uh, if you buy any current-gen parts, you'll need to buy Windows 10, as Microsoft has EoL'd 7/8.1 for Kaby Lake and Ryzon

@ticky @dog I think Kaby Lake delayed new models of that sort of thing a bit, since if they launched with the NVIDIA 1xxxs, they'd have come to market a month before Kaby Lake
