@ulvra oh yeah! i would definitely go recursive in clojure, though cl's spec doesn't actually specify tail call optimization
the implementation i'm using has it, but i'm not sure i wanna use things that aren't in the actual language
for general dungeon generation, drunken walk seems like a decent starting point–iirc, the original rogue always had set rooms, but with random paths connecting them. i also think mystery dungeon used random shapes, and connected those
there's lots of approaches..!
does anyone know of any neat articles on procedural dungeon generation?
i have some ideas, but i wanna see what else is out there before diving into it!
what i mean is, if i wanted to change any of these things, i can just change it and hit ctrl+c, ctrl+c on it to swap it right into the game *while it's running*
but if i wanted to step-by-step debug any of these things, i have to put a (debug) statement in it and hope the stack tells me what i need to know as i step through things
the fact i can swap code into a running game to change things on the fly has always been one of my favorite things about common lisp!
but i forgot how silly its debug support was--i've been spoiled by clojure's tooling
i made a quick placeholder sprite in azpainter so i could experiment with player movement, and ended up accidentally drawing Not-Good Kirby
@talenlee it's both a name and a recipe!
video game corruptions as art
@Xkeeper this localization is an aesthetic!
it's like the tonal difference between michelangelo the artist, and michelangelo the ninja turtle
video game corruptions as art
@Xkeeper ahahah, you weren't kidding!
""Driving Educational Videos"" (pt3)
@Draekos what color were the driver's socks?
i hope you were paying attention to this vital information about driving!
@Xkeeper
it's too bad that the idea of subscribing to your interests was implemented in a way that can often be seen as a step back from more general boards and forums
but if there was something that combined the good ideas from both styles of social media, what would it look like?
@Xkeeper what i mean is, while only seeing the newest things without regard for their value or affect on your mental health is Actually Very Bad, one thing that places like birdsite (or even reddit) have on other social media is the ability to curate topics and people that are interesting to you
it's a pretty killer feature, but is it worth all of the drawbacks that come with the way it was implemented?
for me, the answer varies depending on the day--but i know we can do better then that!
@Xkeeper you're not wrong
it wasn't really a serious attempt to do anything, but kinda interesting with how it compared to feed-based social media
i actually came from a pretty small forum too! but eventually the only thing i ever did on there was peruse new posts page and skip over a slew of things i didn't care for
forums have a lot of strengths, but having one that exclusively pertains to your interests is sometimes hard to come by, which was why i found a hybrid kinda interesting
@Xkeeper someone made an interesting interface to the fediverse the other day: https://puckipedia.com/f66d89ff/i-made-a-forum
i wonder if doing that, and then combining posts like threadreader might be able to get rid of some of these problems..?
it would turn into a hybrid forum where the topics are still only by people you follow, or are on the same instance as, but also make threads more intelligible and rare posts harder to miss
there's still the mentality difference in what gets posted, but maybe it's a start?
meta thoughts
@Xkeeper i actually watch the local timeline here about as much as i do my main one
one of the appeals of this place for me was that local timelines on instances that attracted you would likely have others who you'd mesh well with--and that's part of the reason i kinda don't care for massive instances
i'm probably very much an outlier though--like, i also use tweetmarker on birdsite so i don't miss anything by people i follow (which also means i limit how many peeps i follow)
oh hi! i do computers, and sometimes draw stuff~ i like lo-fi things and cute aesthetics!
i also probably like you
