huh, turns out there's a "catching pokemon" activity in google maps!
i thought all traces of pokemon were basically out of the app after the april fools thing years ago
anxiety (-); looking for advice
what do you do when someone is the root of all of your anxieties with a group you want to be a part of, and even though they want you around because of history, you both feel mutually uncomfortable around each other because of these anxieties?
to complicate matters, what if every time you talk to them about these anxieties, it hurts them and you both end up feeling very bad when they react with anger as a result?
is there a way out of this?
i also learned a valuable lesson about how 8-bit layers work in medibang
i found out drawing in the color you set for a layer, if it isn't black, makes it semi transparent--so i accidentally made all my linework transparent initially D:
(i'm getting faster and better at using this though! even with its limitations ^^)
i drew this one on a tablet that doesn't have pressure sensitivity, palm rejection, or even any real support for tablet pens. it's also the first time i've used medibang
i must thrive on limitation or something ^^'

oh yeah, i also liked toying with the different ways you could give the player one-ups, there's a few of them scattered around!

i put in the concept of high road, low road, where the top is fast and satisfying, and where the bottom is more aesthetic
i also wanted to make sure you couldn't get into situations where you needed to restart the level
it's a pretty long course, but the idea was to maximize the parts of mario that i personally find fun, so i hope you all enjoy it! ^^

i finished dming my first session of dnd, and aside from a kind of rough start, i'm actually really proud with how it turned out!
i had to invent a bajillion npcs to weave into the campaign i'm following on the spot, but i apparently managed to do it in a way that was completely transparent and my players didn't even know that i did it~
someone changed their icon on discord to a photo, and it's funny to me how out of place those look there
i like very much how a lot of species have accredited cuddliness ratings on gbif

SGDQ wrap-up (long)
I've been a speedrunner for almost a decade. It's the entire reason I ever cared about Twitch or streaming, it's the only reason I even cared about retro games. It grabbed a significant portion of my mindshare and effort for years before I stepped back a bit to do more behind the scenes stuff and casual gaming.
In that time I've seen GDQ grow so much, in size, scope, contribution, maturity... They've done a lot of work to try to improve in every way; they're not perfect. They have problems, and will continue to have problems. Sometimes it's hard to see the good when news of the bad travels so fast.
But looking at the past 8 hours... $3m raised for charity, a platform to let people gather and be unabashedly enthusiastic about what they love, a place to channel the desire to do good when maybe the spoons or the knowledge doesn't exist, a much needed uplifting light in the lives of a lot of people... I have to support that.
I'll, again, be vocal about the problems. A buncha people being vocal won changes a few years ago and GDQ has been markedly improved since.
This is a good thing, on the whole. It's important to a lot of people, in more ways than we can count. I'm glad it's here; I'm glad my tiny involvement in it is a thing.
I might be slightly emotional after that ridiculous ending.
