@monorail the problem is that they're already separate characters, and unicode has a strict policy about never breaking backwards compatibility once characters are already in the standard
@typhlosion@monorail There are already direction markers in unicode, I wonder if you could make those work with emoji like that? I guess that would kind of be an abuse of the RTL override, though, and would risk odd behavior in systems that don't expect that.
