social/pol musing, callout culture

while at the grocery store today contemplating advertisements, something occurred to me: callout culture and respectability politics remind me a lot of marketing tactics. i wonder if there's something to that

social/pol musing, callout culture

it's a feeling of, "make our subculture, which is ostensibly full of imperfect flawed people, seem prim and proper and perfect so that people will like and respect us (by throwing all our "problematic" users mercilessly under the bus rather than allowing them to grow)"

maybe it's cos centralized social media encourages (and profits from) public judgment of subcultures by outside people? i dunno

@typhlosion

Keep furry weird, etc.

social/pol musing, callout culture

@typhlosion I’d suspect the urge to censure people is connected to responsibility politics but also to the feeling of needing to do something when there’s nothing apparent to need doing, and desire to have an out group as the way to define a nebulous in group. That a batch of things are coming together here.
