ive been playing stardew valley a bit lately and because i'm me it's got me wondering why, despite all the different ways worldbuilders change their settings from reality, the week always tends to end up at seven days long. i mean, i know it's because of cultural prevalence from the... babylonians, i think?... but it stands out to me a little bit that that's one of the things that so seldom gets changed

@typhlosion Even in Dwarf Fortress which has an entirely novel calendar system, it still has seven-day weeks lol: dwarffortresswiki.org/index.ph (not that the day of the week is relevant for gameplay, probably why they didn't bother changing it)

@typhlosion That's true too, mostly just the month names and the length of the year that's different

@typhlosion The calendar's the first thing I change 'cause it's a great way of establishing "this is an alien culture."

@typhlosion The game Atelier Sophie has weeks of 5 days, and months of 6 weeks (thus 30 days)

@typhlosion
'The Dispossessed' by Ursula K. LeGuin features a culture with a 10 day week. It's just one of many breaks with custom in that book.

@typhlosion the qud calendar is a pretty nice cool one i think. it doesnt even bother with weeks. but it still takes place on earth, so it still has 365 days. wiki.cavesofqud.com/wiki/Calen
i also made a silly thing that tells u the current date & time in qud seapunk.xyz/qud.html
