What if your OCs were friends and had little coffee dates together ☺️
Ever played factorio and thought "I wish my factory had a risc-v core"?
Introducing Factorio Yosys!
This is a project of a friend of mine not on mastodon, so all credit to him. He built a full @yosyshq backend for #factorio that can now compile a #riscv core.
The core runs at 1.82 Hz at 60 FPS, and much faster with uncapped framerate.

Note that no one has yet preserved an original disk of the Apple II version of "Buckaroo Banzai". We have low-quality, defaced disk images of the cracked version that was passed around back in the day. If anyone has an original of this game and would be willing to let me borrow it for, like, 10 minutes, let me know.
oh wait they sell gba ext port replacements. i could just get one of those and put it on a little arduino or whatever the hell
"kassy why do you want to do this"
mostly, itd be handy to be able to link the gba up to a computer or something for game-dev reasons, so i can send arbitrary Stuff over the link cable while testing out a link protocol or whatnot
it'd also be cool to be able to use something like this to link a real gba to an emulated one and e.g. trade pokémon or do multiplayer shenanigans that way
but also... i want to make a piece of music software for gba, like lsdj or whatnot but taking full advantage of the gba's power and sample mixing and stuff, and it'd be great to have a "gba-native" way to do things like import samples and export tracks. and there's only so much you can do with that when you can't connect to any devices aside from other gbas
in particular i would eventually like to be able to make one without destroying an existing link cable
specifically i would like a way to do this that doesn't involve spending $3000 on a specialized printer
actually i know exactly how. i saw this gorgeous shell: https://retrogamerepairshop.com/collections/gba-shells/products/funnyplaying-game-boy-advance-uv-printed-laminated-ready-shell-384 (image attached) and decided i'd look into what it would take to get a custom design printed like this
Here's another experiment on the #playdate simulator while I wait for my unit to arrive: Falling Sand on the framebuffer

my partner nerd-sniped me by showing me this post: https://twitter.com/ObsoleteSony/status/1766358259852623873 (image attached)
it's a Sony SRF-201 fm radio from 1985, and it's the size of a credit card and only 3mm thick. i immediately wanted to know how they got it so thin, and from staring at a picture of the internals the best i can figure is "surface-mount components and an absurdly compact circuit board design"
i don't even listen to the radio but i kind of want one because look at it
Study finds that we could lose science if publishers go bankrupt
A scan of archives shows that lots of scientific papers aren't backed up.
