@grime_witch@witches.town symphony of the night adopted a very metroid approach to level and ability design in terms of "as you get more abilities more of the game opens up using those abilities" which is why it's used in that way
Most castlevanias since have adopted that approach so I think that why people refer to the game design that way

If you're in the US and have trouble affording food, don't be afraid to try and get SNAP (Food Stamps). Many states even have an Expedited SNAP program that can get you a small amount of food stamps within a day,. All you need an ID and a signed affidavit.
