sarcastic venting about work
@mawr WTF?
nerdy shit
@Draekos Oh dear... and that is oh so lovely~
nerdy shit
@Draekos Seems reasonable... but then they all start that way...
@mawr Go MAWR
@Nephila@witches.town I really do miss them after being out here for 9 years. Today is the 9th anniversary of me leaving Savannah. Monday will be the 9th anniversary of me arriving here.
I guess that is what stirred some nostalgia and longing, I didn't realize it until I looked at my work calendar a few minutes ago.
This I miss sense moving to the Bay Area.
Smells:
Air just as a thunderstorm starts rolling off the ocean.
The Earthy, rich soil scent after a storm. (Been sprouts taste like how this smells to me.)
Warm breeze coming off the ocean at night, clean, slightly brime-y salt smell.
Sounds:
Thunder
Hard, heavy rain hammering the roof.
Frogs and toads calling at night after a storm in the summer.
Cicadas oddly enough
Sights:
Sunrise/Set over the water
Storm rolling in from the ocean.

That is probably the case :(

You would think.. but it's all old legacy shit from when they were tiny and all the people that built it are gone and there is no documentation..
Then again this damn thing was formerly owned by the same engineering team with a customer facing and impacting system with no backups, no redundancy and that stopped new content filter defs from being deployed for 2 days when it lost a drive.
more shit to add to fragile points docs. :D
So now I have to recreate everything anyway... oh and someone thought it would be a good idea to rsync the cobbler configs from another master in another datacenter... so now the UI is flooded with systems from wrong datacenter. GRRRR... and it's still running on old hardware.. with a hacked up to fit desktop mobo in it. I should have pushed harder to just rebuild it from scratch on new hardware. /hindsight
Ugh.. spend over a month rebuilding this stupid hacked together, glorified PXE boot box and it's done and finally rebuilt, pass it off to engineering and find it out was all for nothing because apparently the RAID array on it was never actually used.. even though they insisted it was and we lost all of the cobbler configs and images anyway...
@Mycroft I'm a pretty big fan of the EdgeRouterX, I picked up one back in October for new house net and it seems like a pretty solid piece of kit for home/SB users. I've been meaning to roll their new firmware on to it because the new UI + CLI tools look really slick. Eventually I'll get around to that and switching an older Cisco Aeronet to just being a dumb AP.
Shape and form may vary but the pattern of information remains consistent across most known platforms and vessels. Accounting for unknown hosts remains irksome.
