@Oneironott It is kind of a fucking miracle that our weird little subculture even exists -- let alone that we keep popping up on the forefront of the resistance movement. Holy crap that's incredible.

@zebratron2084 I remember when i first went to the high desert out here and saw the night sky. I honestly thought depictions of being able to see the milky way were overexposed somehow.
But I can't help but to look out at all those stars with so many planets, those being just the ones i can see. I mean not only does it make life elsewhere seem inevitable,
but I wonder, truly... what ~is~ the probability that a bunch of radical dreamers existing here, on this rock, at this point in time at a point where information technology pops up and the queering of identity rises and we resist to fight for our future.
Regardless if you parse that spiritually of as a point of astronomical chance, it's WILD and it gives me such hope

@zebratron2084 There's a bunch of people on birdsite learning today that raccoons will chirr in a long manner that they characterize as purring, so that's extremely good.
@Austin_Dern I definitely think any display of potentially advanced communication skills among procyonids is a hopeful sign, 'cause lordy are we ready for them to take over :>

This has come along with a lot of petting raccoon heads and bellies, which is good public service on the part of the hewmons.
@Austin_Dern That reminds me that the Audubon Zoo has reopened for limited visitors. Peg and I should really go down and pay respects to the "captive*" raccoons.
(*They've got such a good scam going and they know it. I have never seen happier, fitter raccoons and their enclosure is immaculate. Which has to take some SKILL for a raccoon warden...)
@zebratron2084 Oh I can imagine. The Singapore Zoo had a great raccoon enclosure, with about a dozen there. They were a joy to watch, and it was great hearing the audience pronouncing "raccoon" in Malay, Indian, Indonesian, Australian, and Thai accents.
(Also fun: the squirrel enclosure was nearby, and you could hear people saying "squirrel" in variations of the British "squee-rell" sound.)
The veterinary science department at work has 1 to 1 scale plush animals that are used for the students to practice on until the instructors are confident they have at least a rough idea what they are doing.
there is someone who makes calibrated veterinary plush.

it is also the only dinosaur on the random encounter table for runequest that is always sapient, and ALWAYS has magic.

@kelseyhusky I saw! I'm cautiously optimistic about it since the GOP is so good at feeding their persecution complex with any attempt to bring them to justice, but it still feels good and couldn't have happened to a more rotten bunch of people...
