music/mh request

Hey. Had a rough day, feeling down on myself. Earnestly want to snap myself out of it.

Could kinda use a musical Experience with a capital E. Something like Boards of Canada's Geogaddi or The Caretaker's Everywhere at the End of Time.

Something intense and a little magical, maybe a little (or a lot) difficult, even something more than a little disturbing.

Melancholy is good. Even depressing is good. Horrific is bad. Angry is bad. Hopeless is bad. Creepy is very, very, very good. Not creepy is also OK I guess. :)

Concept album, probably, is most likely to do the trick.

Thank you as always for your assistance in this experiment. <3

With your assistance, we can perfect the safe, speedy, and effective mental unclogging of tigers in our lifetime. (And make me less of a grumpy P.I.T.A. for @anthracite to have to deal with. <3 )

re: music/mh request

Also I'd like to emphasize that I'm looking for the emotional equivalent of Drāno here, so in terms of difficulty level I'm willing to go to about an 8–9/10. Fuck my shit up.

Something, maybe, that one might advise a more sensible person not to listen to in the dark. (I'm a tiger. I like the dark!)

I mean, throw Merzbow at me if you think my time has come. I am already, as they say, ready for the Shaggs.

@zebratron2084

It is not necessarily magical, or disturbing, or creepy, but I do consider it an experience.

It's a supremely chill and also melancholy album.

Maybe I just associate it with melancholy because it was the background music to my life when I was at the end of my grad student experience?

(I am avoiding suggesting just listening to the Conet Project in a darkened room. Which is a thing I confess I have done on occasion.)

Also sending you all the best otherwise <3 You are good and I very much appreciate you.

re: music/mh request

@Phorm Oh, I've done it too, re: CONET. Surprising nobody. *innocently whistles the Lincolnshire Poacher*

re: music/mh request

@Phorm Okay, I am IMPRESSED, geniefox.

I have heard "Eple" before. Hearing it again triggered a MONSOON of pleasant nostalgia.

And I have absolutely no idea from where. I'm acting on faith that it's not just déjà vu.

The weird thing is that it seems to have a number of well-known appearances... and I know NONE of them are it. (e.g., the Apple setup music, Austin City Limits, PBS affiliate KLRU...)

But I want to say it was licensed in SOME damn thing that I watched regularly. I want to say public TV. Maybe even interstitial music.

Anyhow, well done. Granted a wish neither of us even knew had been made. <3

@zebratron2084

My absolute and sincere pleasure <3 I confess that when I first heard "So Easy" and "Eple" (I sort of consider them one song, or at least heavily linked songs) that it made me feel nostalgia as well. I don't exactly know where from either - just as you say.

I've listened to it so many times over the years by now, though, that it's fused with my brain.

And I'm super happy <3 I hope some magic reaches you soon

(Oh, and the "Good Frequencies" bit at the end of "So Easy" is a nice, suggestive touch, too ^.^ )

re: music/mh request

@zx3 Both definitely going on the list. For now, I think I've found a pretty effective mind-scrubber-- a charmingly violent John Zorn jazzpunk album. But I think I'm in the mood to listen to music all evening, haven't done that in ages... Thank you!

re: music/mh request

@zebratron2084 Sounds like you may need some Heilung. youtube.com/watch?v=h1BsKIP4uY

This is what I put on when I need music to leave me exhausted and oddly healed.

re: music/mh request

@zebratron2084 Did you get any good recos you'd like to pass on? Heilung is great, but it's more... hypothalamic than pituitary. So to speak.
