The one thing humanity can still do to win back my faith and loyalty is put some SERIOUS work into cognitive science, and find a software patch for our catastrophic neurological security holes that people will actually adopt.

But I'm not hopeful, since we already kinda *had* something like that. It was called Zen, and it got eaten by the exact same hierarchical thinking and dogma everything else on this shitty planet does. *shrug*

Uspol gets a lot easier to deal with once you stop rooting for humanity, and I think I genuinely have.

Honestly, I don't think we're going to be exterminated, even by extreme climate change, not unless the planet goes Full Venusian-- and I haven't seen a lot of predictions that say we're going that far.

But I'm increasingly worried that humans have some unfixable cognitive glitches and we might be better off letting nature try sapience again from scratch.

@001zlnv @anthracite Actually, I could see that being a really valuable exercise in "see for yourself what an unfair deadline and low budget do to a production, and what creative things you can do to salvage it" -- if and only if it were graded on a basis of "this is technically really low quality but you actually FINISHED it, great work, A+." If the only standard is "don't give up, turn in SOMETHING" I would totally be down with this in a class...

Feeling betrayed by left-leaning media outlets that conveniently failed to mention the bit about Elizabeth Warren being, what, 1/512th Native American? I'm really glad I smelled something weird and looked for some news outside my bubble.

On the other hand, it just leaves me even less impressed by Donald Trump's intellectual and moral character. Lazy dishonest fuck had a perfect, factual counter... and lied about making the offer anyhow?! Poorest quality supervillainry. :(

I am not an advocate of fleeing the country--not with a "dictator" who has a 40% approval rating. Let's see how the midterms go, at the very least. FWIW, I've never seen single leftist who threatened to leave under Dubya proceed to move a muscle. And they lived. *shrug*

God, it's like our side of the political spectrum has been stuck in the part of a House episode where everybody runs around screaming "IT'S LUPUS" because that's the only diagnosis they know. >_< There are other dangerous political diseases out there, and treating Trump like he's the Berlin 1933 strain is NOT going to help us cure it.

Disclaimer: when I say things like "I'm not actually sure 'Nazi' and 'fascist' are the right terms for Trump's admin," I say it in the same sense that a zoologist might say "technically, that's not a crocodile, that's an alligator."

I maintain there are important genetic/historic differences between 21st-c. racist kleptocracy and 20th-c. industrial militarism. However, for the purposes of someone who doesn't want to get eaten, they are similar enough that you should get running.
