re: Yoteposting

@Oneironott I mean, this is an important distinction-- I had actually wondered briefly if you were talking about the Beloved Cosmic Asshole 'yote...

@eredien Hey, I'm so sorry we had to cancel out, was not a deliberate snub, still wanna chat and stuff!

I think we fumbled just about every possible logistics roll, including realizing we never booked a car for NOLA and a couple other of our usual last-minute panics. :O

Honestly, we are just really bad at meetup these days, the locals will vouch. n.n;;;;;

@Oneironott FWIW, I could totally tell you were citing it for discussion. <3

Honestly, I have no problem with anyone who'd like to make a devil's advocate case for him, either-- I don't think his point is 100% without merit, and terminology _does_ matter! I just felt his own personal _tactics_ were really weak and inconsiderate...

uspol, culture wars, lang, lit, snark

That moment when you realize that 90% of the political (not to mention, fan-culture) comments you've left over the last 20 years could have been replaced just as efficiently with "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds."

Fuck, human minds are just _terrible_ at discerning when their lazy intellectual shorthands aren't gonna work. This definitely includes me.

@Oneironott *phieds u ey ghoti* ❤️😺

"It is a tragedy, I feel, that people of a different sexual type are caught in a world which shows so little understanding for homosexuals and is so crassly indifferent to the various gradations and variations of gender and their great significance in life." -- Emma Goldman, in a letter to Magnus Hirschfeld, A HUNDRED FUCKING YEARS AGO

re: California meta, the Salton Sea, youtube

@LexYeen@snouts.online It's okay, hun, absolutely nobody outside of California thought it was perfect anyhow. >:D

blatantly unfair angry Gen-Xer Who Just Doesn't Get It discourse snark (but lord it feels good)

"Millennial demands complete reworking of your linguistic habits to their personal comfort, film at 11."

You're free to sympathize with them all you want. Me, personally, they lost me for good at "I find 'neurodiverse' a lot less othering than terms 'neurodivergent.'"

That's nice, kid. I'll keep that in mind... and then continue with my own linguistic habits, shaped by my own experiences and sensibilities, cheerfully indifferent to which parts of speech, Greek root, or letters of the alphabet you take umbrage to.

And how about you just meet me half the fucking way and put it into some context instead of assuming it's meant as a personal affront. Or better yet, how about we just don't talk to each other period, since you're muting everybody who thinks you're being a dismissive fuckwit anyhow. 🙄

I'm not ill. I'm not lost. I'm not failing. I'm supposed to be like this, I'm dealing, and I'm exactly the way I want to be right now.

(Well, actually I'm freaking out over last-minute NOLA travel logistics because we forgot to rent a car, but you know what I mean. Relative to the Discourse I'm fine thanks. :) )

@JulieSqveakaroo Honestly? I have kind of a soft spot for multi-use places like that. Peg's dragged me to the REI flagship store downtown and I always kinda liked that it had a cafe, a restaurant, climbing walls and bike paths for testing gears, a mini-garden, a conference hall for "outdoorsy" events, a petting zoo...

(Okay, I'm probably joking about the petting zoo, but it was a big complex and I only saw about half of it.)

@mona@cybre.space Oh, good, I'm running a bit behind too. :)

@mona@cybre.space Okay! Meet up with you in the general food court area? I'll probably at least have my laptop along and I'm pretty sure they've got some kind of wi-fi up there... I don't mind if I have to wait a bit, either!

@JulieSqveakaroo Well, young one, many a young acolyte has grasped the IKEA Nature through meditation, study, and the purchase of sensibly priced household items. I, however, got to pretty much the same place by eating vast quantities of their meatballs. You are free to choose your path.

@mona@cybre.space Okay, barring complete structural integrity failures, which IIRC are pretty _easy_ to get wrong... :) But I mean, we're dealing with the level of food service where I'd be truly astonished if all the "baking" weren't done by industrial robot...

@mona@cybre.space Haha, they're not great honestly, but they are consistently _super_ acceptable. :) And their cheesecake is actually... well, I mean, it's cheesecake, that's hard to truly get wrong.

@mona@cybre.space A late lunch, like 2 or 3 pm, would work out great for me! Honestly, I could even just do Cheesecake Factory-- that's pretty much their only reason for existing, IMHO, making menu decisions for social gatherings easy. :)
