Huh. Got my last visit in with my local doctor, and we discussed my last set of tests. Everything is _egregiously_ normal, which is nice. Apparently even my cholesterol is somehow right on the median-- which given the way I eat, borders on a frickin' superpower. =>_>;=

re: magiczqxk apparently; 😻
@frameacloud I'd actually quite like to hear more about that!
magiczqxk apparently; 😻
So, as noted in the epic Tale of Journey[1], Peg and I have been thinking of adopting a cat when we get to NOLA--- preferably a black one, since they have a tougher time of it and, well, Peg fancies herself a witch.

In fact, she's been pondering using magickal sigils as her Plan A for cat recruitment. And "rationalist mystic" that I am, I have been teasing Peg about it a little, but also totally willing to roll with it... as long as we also check out cat shelters and stuff, just in case her prowess on the Astral Plane (aka "the Kitternets") is not what she hopes.
Well, guess who showed up just five minutes ago?
A big black kitty (give or take a white poof) just hopped in through our (screenless) window with no warning whatsoever. His owner leaned his head in and apologized profusely, but Peg was just giggling with delight--- and I was just staring at her, utterly dumbfounded. Little bugger explored until they were convinced they were NOT where they intended to end up, and they left amiably without a fuss.
I guess word got out early on the Kitternet. She hadn't even cast the dang spell yet. Now I'm SERIOUSLY wondering if we're not just gonna stroll right into that cat café and find out we're the only people Journey has ever loved, or something...
This isn't the first time this has happened to me, either, a moment of massive cattocentric synchronicity. Remind me someday to tell you the story of Seraph, and why I'm going to be freaked shitless (yet also delighted) if the cat who shows up out of nowhere in NOLA is a gigantic white Persian...
re: pol snark
@kobi_lacroix This is one of the things I really like about furry fandom: we're probably gonna be a BITCH to infiltrate. We must look cryptic as hell to outsiders, and passing and that is a very valuable survival adaptation these days...

Oh, 5-Card Nancy. How I've missed you.
@Oneironott You're probably too young to get this but
IT'S GOTTA BE THE TAILS, MARS
re: Commission, Self-Aware Humor, TG Captions (?+?)
@Phorm One word: "buffe."
This is some quality bad craftsmanship. Like, Garth Marenghi level. ^__^
re: Commission, Self-Aware Humor, TG Captions (?+?)
@Phorm Oh my god, these are perfect. The moment I realized the captions were bad on purpose... *snerk* These things needed a good loving satire SO BADLY. ^_______^
re: MLP: FiM problematical
@kara_dreamer@plural.cafe @nautilee Yeah. It's amazing how many people are fanatically into both shows yet somehow totally impervious to their themes. -_-
I had such high hopes for both fandoms.
Incidentally, I tend to agree about SU-- but Rebecca didn't have Hasbro to deal with. I've enjoyed all five seasons of Steven, but I do feel like it's gotten sidetracked and lost a lot of plot momentum, even without the terrible scheduling. (And I'm still miffed at how badly Connie's gotten neglected in this allegedly groundbreaking feminist show...) If Lauren had been left alone to make the show she wanted, I think it would've been better than SU, actually.
In fact, I think the moment I fell out of love with bronies was when I realized how PURE AND GOOD Wander Over Yonder is, and that virtually nobody from MLP fandom was going to support Lauren's other work, 'cause It Wasn't Pony. Some cynical part of me suspects it's because Wander ranked very low on the Narcissistic Self-Insertion Opportunity and Tiny Magic Waifu scales. -_-
re: early MLP: FiM problematical; Schadi the changeling still has the mike
@kara_dreamer@plural.cafe *approving cackle*
The bronies keep wailing and rending their garments over FiM ending, but I think it'll take us all at LEAST another nine years to compile the full Marxist deconstruction of that show... >:D
This is what the haters don't get. I think part of the appeal of MLP for adults *is* the fact we're watching a kids' show from a grown-up perspective... And there's nothing prurient about that, innately.
It's just really fun to analyze the cognitive dissonance that exists between this somewhat pasteurized world on the screen, and all the subtext that's constantly bleeding out of it... That's an exercise you CAN'T do with a show made purely for adults, and it has its own unique intellectual pleasures.
Tip of the Martian Imperial Crown to @frameacloud for my current display name. ^___^
