This exchange from /r/mylittlepony was just so wholesome I had to share. I'm #1, 3, and 5.

Submitted without comment, except one for when you get it: I apologize profusely.

It was very kind of the Monkey Monkey cafe to not only provide a selection of Zappa jazz-rock classics for my enjoyment, but to also provide a long-haired, goateed young man who looks like a highly attractive version of Frank Zappa, also for my enjoyment. What a charming menu set.

Please help protect our native species, such as the Bolt-Eyed Heron

Update to previous Tuca and Bertie recommendation: I hadn't seen the whole season. Be warned there should be a CW attached to the show. It does get dark towards the season finale, but it sounds like it's still resolved in a... not as Bojacky way?

tuca and bertie spoilers

@Aradia @anthracite *spoils self*

That motherfucker. >_<

@Aradia @anthracite Seriously? Thanks for the warning, I hadn't seen the whole thing yet!

I know I promised I'd stop doing these, but I think a cat on a leash in a cafe, especially a friendly curious one, deserves some kind of signal. =^___^=

Reminder that Tuca & Bertie is actually really, really good-- basically, if you turned away from Bojack because it was just too depressing, this is the show you wanted to watch.

However, I might be biased here, since @anthracite is basically the precise emotional average of the two main characters. :D

post-capitalism, adorable failure, feesh (+)

OTOH watching Red Lobster advertise on NOLA television is such an adorable and pathetic waste of time that it makes me smile.

Motherfucker, I can get a plate of 5⭑ Creole shrimp from THIRTY different places in walking distance. While we were the best of friends when I was stranded in Ohio... and your cheesy biscuits are still a fine idea... I'm afraid your services are no longer needed.

post-capitalist fuckyou

MFW when it turns out the company I ordered from because it's not Amazon had just been bought up by Walmart instead.

You can't fucking win. Not without rifles, molotovs, and an army of 50,000. Which we should probably do someday real real soon. >_<

random nostalgia, racism, shenanigans

I miss Kazaa and Napster.

Specifically, I miss being able to share my collection of mp3s mislabeled as fake White Power Rock/Fashwave tracks with whimsically insulting German titles (e.g. "Der Käufer sollte aufpassen"), that all turned out to be the DKs' "Nazi Punks Fuck Off." XD

I used to get some of the most interesting and colorful DMs on those services. 😺

NOLA (--), racism, Fair Game, tasty humans who make the pretty screams

Ah, so THAT'S where the local racist fuckwads hide out. On the LSU Tigers forums.

I guess that's my new hunting ground. How very ironic. =^_______^=

thought about LRB, corporate intrusion, the history of exploitation in general

I wonder how many colonization efforts started with "oh, don't mind us, we're just friendly strangers, here to trade and farm peacefully!"

I wonder how much we can learn, as basically Internet indigenes*, from that history. What separated nations like Japan, Thailand, and (mostly) Ethiopia from those that got occupied? Should we be pulling the equivalent of Tokugawa's closing of ports to all European powers who wouldn't play ball?

It sure sounds like a good idea to me-- if we have something they want, it seems like the thing to do is keep it as far away from their ugly grasping mitts as possible. And fire on them if they approach, no matter how much they're offering.

*Zero disrespect intended to actual real-world indigenes, whose situation is infinitely more dire than ours could ever be. But the general process of "we were here first, but nobody gave a shit 'cause we were in the way" seems to have some meaningful strategic similarities. And man, do I feel like a Polish cavalryman facing down a German Panzer these days... *sigh*

Some thoughts I had a while back about corporate instances (2/2)

Our content and social interactions is the equivalent of labour to them, and 'striking' indefinitely by taking it away from their reach not just undermines their motivations but the entire project of exploiting this kind of system. It makes this ecosystem inhospitable to them.

Some thoughts I had a while back about corporate instances (1/2)

Corporations owning instances is more than just 'they are intrinsically not well suited to making a place habitable for real people'.

If a corporation has an instance, it means they don't just treat their instance as a business venture, but all the social connections coming off of it that make it thrive, which includes us too.

just me being a Day Jeorb dork (++)

*Amy Santiago/Twilight Sparkle grin*

I GET TO EDIT AND PROOFREAD ALL DAY LONG! ^____________^

(This also implies that I now formally have TEAMMATES to help me slog through all this new grading work. Our 1st Mumbai-team recruit is really good and sharp, but there's a lot of culturally fraught grammatical correction to do. It needs a gentle hand, and I'm enjoying the hell out of it. ^_____^ )
