ANOTHER came at me. He said he'd "owned" me with a rebuttal after I'd blocked him, then proceeded to spam every comment I'd left in the last 24 hours with a challenge. After waiting all of an hour.

So I looked.

My original point? "Kavanaugh's own calendar didn't match up with his repeated perjury."

His ownage? This link. theconservativetreehouse.com/2

It "proves" Ford was lying because her lawyer friend was... standing kinda near her? No calendar mention at all.

When I gave her one last chance to follow through, she said, "Never, you crazy [extremely unkind word]!"

And I'm still just sitting here trying to figure out how "Haha, I will NEVER prove you wrong" is a good threat.

In the unlikely event anyone was curious: I heard back from one of the Trumpies who bailed on a debate.

She sent me a private message in which she made an excuse for never following up with her promised "list" of evidence, called me a "typical leftist" who's "obsessed" with her, called me a "loser," reminded me "Trump is still my president," and then "owned" me with a SINGLE link that ignored every single one of the criteria I had already laid out for acceptable evidence.

Yup.

re: uspol; money quote

I found the entire article on the Wayback Machine. Except for the false prophecies about Russia and Latin America, it's a real doozy, and I think it might have finally gotten me over my last qualms about calling the GOP "fascist" (as explicitly opposed to "Nazi," for reasons I've addressed before)...

uspol; money quote

“The really dangerous American fascists are not those who are hooked up directly or indirectly with the Axis.… The American fascist would prefer not to use violence. His method is to poison the channels of public information."

“With a fascist the problem is never how best to present the truth to the public, but how best to use the news to deceive the public into giving the fascist and his group more money or more power.” -- Vice President Henry Wallace, April 9, 1944

re: uspol; tiger instincts

I've said it over and over again. These people are just like the people we fought in the Troll Wars. They use the same shoot-and-scoot tactics, they have the same disinterest in real discussion, and they have the same *complete lack* of community-building skills and espirit d'corps.

I am still not convinced they have a bright future relative to us. At best, they can hinder us with these tactics. To actually STOP us, they must build something sustainable. They can not.

This is literally the fifth fucking time this week that I have laid out an extensive, sourced, annotated debunking of a right-winger's argument on Reddit, only to have em totally disappear from the thread the moment they were challenged.

On one hand, fuck me for trying, right? On the other, it's certainly not increasing my inclination to be scared of these people. If they'll retreat this fast from a polite-as-they-had-coming debunking, what the hell will they do in a war?!

"Rezy, where the hell do you find this shit?"

Proto-Subgenius film by Douglass Smith, aka the Reverend Ivan Stang. It's uncomfortably perceptive and predictably Devo. Definitely NSFW and brace yourself for some values dissonance.

And why did I do it, how could I say that
I wanna come down?
Everything's swirling and I just forgot
Why I came to this town

So now I think I'm all tied up
So now I think I'm tangled up
I know and I can't see no more
I know and I can't see no more

Have had the Bojack Horseman theme song going through my head for most of the last day and a half.

Well, that can't be a good sign. Appropriate, probably, but not good.

"...They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.”

uspol-relevant quote (1/2)

"Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors..."

Link to my commonplace book, i.e. personal book of trivia and miscellaneous notes: evernote.com/l/Ahj14VCozwRCmKP

I think I might start posting a link to this thing once a month, since it's always changing. Most of it probably won't be of much interest to people, it's mostly a list of weird names and such that appealed to me. But if it inspires someone to keep one of their own and link us to it someday, I'll be so happy! ^_^

I am not worried in the least about my country becoming a genocidal, militaristic, totalitarian society. I don't think the people who would like to see that have the numbers for it. I don't think our culture would support it. I think it's clear that, as bad as things have gotten, our bigots still feel they need to couch their bigotry as something else, and that's actually a good sign.

But I am very, *very* afraid of my country becoming a reactionary, autocratic Putin-style kleptocracy.
