This shouldn't be a hot take but:
Asexuals & Aromantics are valid
Gay Ace/Aros are valid
Trans Ace/Aros are valid
Cis Hetero Ace/Aros are valid
Cisphobia and heterophobia are pretty common things amidst the LGBTQA+ community and for understandable reasons!
Don't let bad experiences with and distrust of cis/hetero folks inspire you to punch down at asexuals and aromantics. It's a (differently but still) hard world out there for our ace and aro frens; help keep our spaces safe for them too!!
mood, music, adolescence, The Past
I've been doing better. I wouldn't say I'm over my sisters, or ex-sisters, or whatever the hell they are now. But I'm definitely starting to feel that healing distance. It feels good, like soft memory foam, or maybe unmemory foam, packed up against the wound. Anyway, this song by the drop nineteens touched me just hard enough that I remembered the wound was there, and I realized, holy shit, this song is about being nineteen. And maybe that was appropriate, because being 43 is a lot like being 19 for the 2nd time. But this time, things don't go vague and fall apart because of college or high school. They just kind of fall apart.
It's funny when you stop to realize, I'm already forty-three.
And how serious can anything be anyway?
Not very.
@Balinares Belated happy birthday!
re: blatant eavesdropping
oh god they even have their own yoko ono, i feel like a bastard but this is priceless :D
blatant eavesdropping
"Well, I feel like we're _all_ victims here."
"I just feel like Steve's got an agenda. Why set rules, if you're not going to follow them?"
"I don't know how he can look at himself in the mirror and accept the performance he's giving us."
"I'd just really appreciate leaving this band cleaner than you found it."
These are all real quotes from the aforementioned band kids. I'm expecting one hell of a link to the next sketch.
media
Huh. For a William Street production, DreamCorp LLC is turning out to be... kind of moving in places? They at least seem to be taking the "psychedelic" part of the show dead-seriously now and then. And some of the bizarre things they consider "therapy"... don't sound half bad, honestly.
The last couple episodes were flat-out heartwarming. Not what I was expecting at all. The Waking Life influences aren't just in the animation-- in fact, this show is kinda like Waking Life with the stick pulled out of its ass. :p
Still not 100% sold on the humor, but I'm starting to think this is an underrated show.
parallax
@anthracite and I discussed a major style goal for Parallax:
It's 198X. It's two in the afternoon. You're 15. You're home sick with a nasty flu, so you can see all the TV that airs when you're normally in school.
You see an episode of an anime. You're sure you've seen this series before-- specifically the _last_ time you were sick. It's science fiction, but nothing special as far as you remember. Giant robots or something?
But this time there's psychic powers and space elves and soul-eating butterflies and two girls kissing. It's nothing like what you saw last time, not that you're sure that wasn't a fever dream too.
And it's not until decades later that you have any context for any of this-- let alone understand that it was like six different series patched together by someone who didn't speak the original language.
In the meantime, it just sits there kind of... fermenting, and the things you could've sworn you saw completely overgrow the parts you didn't see. They take on strange, grotesque proportions and tickle parts of your brain that you didn't know were there.
We want Parallax to be nothing *but* those moments. Just five or six bite-sized adventures, set in a world that changes radically every time you look away.
old person media
Huh. Had that neat thing where the people behind two bits of previously unrelated nostalgia turn out to be the same person.
In this case, it was a familiar song from the Dr. Demento radio show ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhjOpm-KL-A ), and one from the soundtrack of Robert Altman's Short Cuts, which I saw during a really life-changing film class ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t927IWcIBs8 ).
Both Annie Ross, apparently. Neat.
mood (+)
I say completely without irony that I'm so delighted to be bored in Seattle again. :)
Being bored in Ohio was actually rather nice in a lot of ways. And being entertained in Seattle, at Glowtide, was also very nice.
It's also nice to have things back to normal, though. Anthracite's napping, I've got an MST3K on in the background, and I'm just doing my dayjob. We're even on the "easy" cycle of my job, so it's going fast and everything's pretty chill.
Nearly perfect, 4/5. If I hadn't forgotten to buy chicken broth earlier, I'd have tortilla soup and a 5/5.
re: seriously rez where do you find this shit, pfaf
"rez, please stereotype your entire TapestriesMUCK career in one image or less." *blush*
