Venting about work
@mawr Oof. We're in a very similar boat over here, but have managed to finagle the Atlassian suite on a couple of VMs, plus our own servers. When we swapped from Google to Microsoft for everything, I can't even begin to tell you how much I cursed out the higher-ups. We're still not back to where we were on some things.

@mawr RE #2: God forbid your engineers would ever have a project last longer than two years... That never happens, right?

@zetasyanthis Hoooooly shit. They didn't even go the office365 route (which includes free live archiving which doesn't add to your counted storage totals)?!

@mawr Not sure about money, as this is a 180k person company, so I'm guessing they negotiate a rate. I think they did it because they're considered business records and there are potential legal liabilities regarding them.

@mawr And it is office 365. They just have settings configured to do that.

@mawr And I guess what I'm saying is this: I'm screaming into the void too. ;_;

@mawr And, uh, long live shadow IT. >.<

@zetasyanthis Augh. ;~;

@mawr If you haven't read Bytewave's posts on TFTS, you need to, btw.

@mawr My favorite stupidities were:
1. When they initially decided they wouldn't both migrating email/files/contacts from one to the other and we'd just lose everything in 6 months.
2. They've now set a two year retention on emails. If you need something older, you have to ask for retention on a PER Email basis.
