i want a jrpg where you kill the final boss and then that's the halfway point of the game, you don't get your credits and satisfaction until you've helped rebuild the stuff the big bad guy destroyed
-F
@Felthry oh, what game is that?
spoilers for a game that i can't name here because the name is the spoiler
@VoxSomniator Suikoden II
-F
@Felthry it's different but you might be interested in Moon, there was a Switch remaster recently
@noiob have a link? I feel like searching might be hard with a name that's a) a common english word and b) a common thematic element in video games
-F
@noiob oh this is a neat concept
apparently also it was inspiration for undertale? and they decided to localize it and re-release it after talking to toby fox about undertale? that's pretty neat
-F
@Felthry that would be really good
imagining that there are, like, base-building systems and social systems from the start, so
by the time you take out the final boss, you're already a part of the community of people trying to rebuild

final fantasy 6 spoilers
@packbat I know FFVI was already extended past its originally intended ending (there was supposed to be a final battle on the floating continent and the game would end there, but they found they had tons more development time than they needed so made it longer) but it would have been a good candidate for something like this
like the world is pretty much completely destroyed at the end, all you did was take out the guy who destroyed it, stuff's still bad
let us see cyan lead an army of rebuilders to restore doma to its former glory
let us see celes lead the people of what remains of the empire to a new peaceful life
see locke take banon's place and, i dunno, have the returners be a political party in celes's ex-empire
see Relm and Strago go out and teach people outside of Thamasa to use magic
-F
@packbat that got kinda long sorry
-F
@Felthry is fine!
we were just infodumping about C:DDA at friends earlier, we get it - and it was CWed correctly
also it was apt

@Felthry I don't think it's exactly what you're looking for, but Okami has a nice fakeout where the final boss isn't the final boss. It got me pretty good when I played it.
@KamareDrache Ōkami is a pretty game but we've never finished it... that would have been nice to have a spoiler cw on
-F
@Felthry I thought I'd got it vague enough... You're right, though, my bad. At the very least, it's pretty early in.
@KamareDrache oh you mean that part! we have gotten to that part
-F
@Felthry Littlewood is the second part of this
it's rare enough to see any game even take on "you killed the big bad guy who was the reason you set out on this adventure, now you have to (get back home/kill the other bad guy who jumped into the power vacuum/do anything else that isn't like a tiny fraction of the game)"
there is only one game i know of where you kill the main bad guy on disc one and then spend all of discs 2 and 3 (metaphorically, it's a single-disc game) trying to right what he did wrong
