anyone else having trouble getting elden ring to run? it just shows the "initializing" screen, then goes to a pure white screen, then crashes with no error message
-F
we meet all the minimum requirements (have a gtx 1060 6gb, ryzen 3600, running windows 10) and have freshly updated graphics drivers, and we tried the thing about uninstalling epic games launcher, the game still just crashes after the loading screen
the only slightly unusual thing about our computer is that we have an ultrawide monitor, and that we're playing it over a steam link (but it won't launch if we do it without the steam link either)
-F
@Felthry apparently there's a conflict with Epic Games Launcher, that might be it?
https://twitter.com/DanSyronArt/status/1497085826391429121
@starseeker unfortunately uninstalling that did not fix it
unless maybe we need to restart the computer after that, maybe that will help
-F
@starseeker nope, still not working
-F
@Felthry I don't have any ideas 🙁 aside from maybe a format, I have had an issue with some game just never working for me due to some ingrained OS issue
@sharkNserg i don't wnat to lose any data on here though, even just settings, getting windows set up is extremely spoons-intensive, increasingly so as windows 10 does its windows 10 stuff
-F
@Felthry check files, disable steam overlay, disable EAC
@noiob steam overlay is one we haven't tried yet
-F
@noiob Blf, still didn't work
-F
@Felthry did you try launching it as admin?
@noiob yeah
-F
@noiob we've tried just about everything we can find online short of getting a new graphics card
-F
@Felthry I've seen some gaming news articles claiming that the Epic Games launcher itself can cause problems with Elden Ring, and that updating (or if that doesn't work, removing) the Epic Games launcher might fix it. Here's one of the many sources I've seen for that: https://windowsreport.com/elden-ring-pc-white-screen/
@LexYeen yeah, we uninstalled that too, that was the first thing we tried
-F
@Felthry Ugh. Suck.
I've also got a list of known bugs and launch issues, and some of them sound like your problem. https://www.windowscentral.com/elden-ring-known-bugs-and-launch-issues
And here's a set of troubleshooting steps others have found useful, in the event something on it is something you haven't tried. https://whatifgaming.com/how-to-fix-the-elden-ring-crash-at-launch-issue-on-pc/
@Felthry And I just found another set of troubleshooting steps which mentions that the game requires Visual C++ redistributables, which no others I've seen have mentioned, so that *might(????)* be worth looking into. Here's that guide: https://www.ghostarrow.com/how-to-fix-elden-ring-wont-launch-crashing
@LexYeen actually that second link in your last post suggested that, which we're currently trying to do -F
@Felthry Ahhh, I guess I glossed over that! My mistake.
@LexYeen also ghhhh, update windows
we've disabled that since we got this computer in 2018 because fuck all the stuff microsoft kept adding to windows 10 to make it worse
-F
@LexYeen i'm not even sure how to turn it back on to update properly but i'll at least run the updater for the security updates we didn't disable
-F
@Felthry Good plan, and definitely worth looking into re-enabling windows update at least long enough to bring the system up to current patch levels. There's no telling what kind of back-end changes could be fucking with trying to run Elden Ring.
@LexYeen well we did the update and elden ring still doesn't work and also the steam link doesn't stream right anymore, it's showing the entire image from the monitor instead of just the window it's supposed to be showing
-F
@LexYeen so now we have two problems instead of one
-F
@LexYeen okay we got the steam link problem fixed
-F
@Felthry Blaaargh. I wish I had more to offer!
@LexYeen thank you for the help at least
-F
@Felthry RockPaperShotgun has a few suggestion here: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/elden-ring-players-share-possible-fixes-for-technical-problems
Disabling "Easy Anti-Cheat" is something mentioned there that we haven't seen you mention
- 🤞🏽 🎒💧
@packbat that was something we've tried and didn't work, but thank you
-F
@Felthry oof - gotcha
- 🎒💧
@Felthry sometimes launching the game from the command prompt will show error/diagnostic messages pushed to stderr or stdout
I don't know if that's ever actually helped me solve a problem before, but it might give you a clue
(usually there's a flood of warnings about some graphics functionality not being implemented that turns out to not be relevant)
@Felthry The crash on the all-white splash seems to be attributed mainly to Easy Anti Cheat. Apparently this is the strange way to disable it, if you don't mind playing offline:
https://steamlists.com/elden-ring-fix-for-most-performance-and-crashing/
The game has frame dips for me when it's loading in chunks on my modern gaming PC, hopefully this will all get sorted soon.
-Zu
@squirrellilly that makes it skip the loading screen and go straight to the white screen, which then crashes out faster, but "crashes faster" is not exactly the performance enhancement i was hoping for
-F
@squirrellilly thank you for the advice though, even if it didn't work
-F
@Felthry Well damn. At least that rules out an EAC error. -z
anyone who has managed to get elden ring working, please let us know what you did, i really don't want to miss out on playing it when it's new, we almost never get to do that
