I don't really understand Mastodon etiquette. I'm sure some of it's a holdover from Twitter etiquette (I always misspell and have to retype that word) but since I never used Twitter I am left clueless! I see people favo(u)riting my status a lot when it doesn't seem like something fave-worthy (to me); is that like a way of signalling "i have read this thing"?

As I understand it a fav is just like "I agree but have nothing to say" or "that's neat", or if you're in a thread with someone it can mean "I acknowledge and see this"
@Felthry favs are kind of context-sensitive. for serious/vent posts they can signal solidarity; for humorous posts they can signal appreciation
in general, yeah, i use it as a signal that i've read the post if i don't have any specific reply to it
