I kinda figure I’ve become a radical feminist SJW without actually changing my politics at all, a little like how in 2002 I became a wingnut liberal without my politics changing. Ain’t me, it’s the Overton Window.
@thingywott similarly, “characters in media should be Asian, Black, and women sometimes, and not every female character has to slam you over the skull with exaggerated femininity, because the world is full of cool characters who aren’t always white dudes,” is not exactly Gloria Steinem material, but it’s 2018 and here I am.
@Leucrotta Frankly my own guiding principles haven't really -changed- a whole lot since I was 16 or so, either.
The context they exist in, and to what extent I'm actually following them on the other hand... yeah, that's a completely different story.
@Leucrotta i'm seen as so leftist now
my belief of "to each their own" and that "everyone should have the same chance at happiness" were always present, but my understanding of the lottery that is circumstance is what ended up pushing me so far left
i know things can be so much better! and the situations of people that have it rough with the status quo don't need to be so bad!
it's still so strange to me that wanting to limit human suffering is seen as extreme
