All day long I'd diddy-diddy-dum,
If I were an Otherkin.
Wouldn't have to... naw, actually, that's not true at all! And besides, I hate that musical.

Long rant.

@Leucrotta I remember it always making me a bit uncomfortable how despite the father softening up to two of his daughters "disobeying", the movie in its own way says that this tyrannical, patriarchal family dynamic is OK, even endearing.
The disowning of the third daughter was just harrowing to watch every time. Eff this movie for trying to make it a heart-tugging moment without showing the painful depth of what being shunned by one's "family" is really like.

Long rant.

@CrownedRat Sholom Aleichem said he seriously didn’t want the Tevye stories made into musical theater- there was a thriving Yiddish theater when he said it. I dunno... the folk humor of the original stories does get into “wow these are kinda terrible people.”

But as Fiddler there’s this gross too twee aspect, and if you’re Jewish, you wind up seeing it repeatedly- it’s like being shown Roots when you’re a Black kid, if Roots really idealized and cleaned up sharecropping.
